Location: Colorado | What a cool Web site! My dad gave me an Ovation guitar a few years back that he had owned for a long time. I want to figure out what kind of guitar I have.
The serial number is 215476, so according to the Ovation Web site the guitar was made in 1981. The label inside the bowl is silver and says the guitar was made in Connecticut. Here's where I'm kind of confused: the model number is 1617, which according to Ovation makes it a Glen Campbell Artist Balladeer. Is this correct or is it actually a Legend? I search previous posts for an answer and it sounds like it is a Legend and not a Glen Campbell, but can anyone tell me why?
Thanks! And by the way I love the guitar!

Location: SoCal | It's an acoustic electric Legend. The 7 on the end (last number - 1617) was the Legend designation. The GC model ended with a 27 (acoustic electric model number 1627). The Legend has the deeper bowl. |

Congrats, your Dad did you good! That's what Dad's do best!

Location: Colorado | Thanks Norse - I absolutely love my Ovation. When I first started to learn guitar I used to sneak a few strums on my dad's guitar, always making sure I put everything back exactly the way it was. I learned on some banged up no name acoustic that was a chore to play, so it was like a breath of fresh air to play the Legend. Then I played on a decent Fender acoustic, but my dad gave me the Ovation about four years ago - what a joy! The guitar is still in excellent condition, and I play it A LOT! I'm actually taking it to the ship today for a small crack in the finish.
