| Hello,
I have an Ovation Applause Mandolin and the neck has started to pull away from the plastic body. The gap at full tension is small but it's enough to cause tuning problems. What kind of glue should I use to reattach the neck to the body and stop any further separation?
Thanks for your help!

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Something similar happened to a friend of mine. He took some glue, I think it was the kind they use to repair exploded locomotives, and just glued the thing, using books as clamps. So now he has this enourmous blob of glue hanging off his guitar, but it works. Seriously, I forget what kind of glue it was, but if you go to a hardware store and explain what you want to glue they'll give you something. It's worth a shot before junking the thing. Good Luck! |

Put the mixed adhesive in the joint, place the book on the back of the bowl (may need some masking tape or duct tape to hold it in place, and stretch a couple of lengths of lightweight rubber tubing from the peghead around the strap button at the bottom of the instrument. Shouldn't require a great deal of tension, either. You did loosen the strings, right? Good luck!! |
