For anybody looking for a Country Artist, here's an early 80's model on ebay. Looks pretty good and no reserve.

As "C/A" Ovation models go... Any feedback on this 1624 model?
Yes it is just "GAS" but I might be able to blame it on the kid and get it for a B.Day present... I still get to play...
I have a note into the owner asking a few questions.

Woz,
I think the CA is one of Ovations unsung hero's. I have had one for a long time and really like it. Most steel string players have trouble with classicals because of the wide neck. The CA is great because it's neck is only slightly wider than a steel string (actually it's about the same width as a 12-string neck, and the exact same as the Josh White or Folklore). The 14 fret neck is also something unique to nylons and of course the Artist bowl is wonderful. Unplugged it's not a very loud guitar, however. The only thing I don't particularly care for is the flat fretboard, but you get used to it. Dave

I own this very same model (see sig) and love it. I was classically trained and then went on to electric guitar (jazz, blues). Last year I found a 1624 on ebay and got it for $500 from the original owner. I find the Ovation much easier to transition between electric and acoustic, both in the way the guitar fits against my body as well as the width of the nut. I love the 1624 and play it everyday (electrics haven't been played in months).

I must have been half asleep when I looked at it, I swear I missed that it was a nylon string, I thought Country Artists were steel string. I seem to remember somebody playing one on the GC TV programs that I taped, was it Jerry Reed?

Dave & others thanks for the imput... It looks like it is in nice shape. Does Ovation make another "clasical" that would kick the 1624s butt?
This is still "GAS"...

CA is not really classical guitar. If you meant nylon string, I think 1763 or 6773 would be at least as good as 1624.

Yes, Jerry did play a CA quite a lot. The original model #3 classical or the 1113 probably has the best acoustic sound of any Ovation nylon string, but doesn't have the narrow neck or 14 frets of the CA. Personally I would like to have a CA with a 12 fret neck and a deep bowl. That would likely be a really nice guitar. DAve

Ditto on that Dave. I have often thought that that combination would produce a terrific sound. Someday when I win the lottery....

By the way, not meaning to change the subject, but I was looking thru the latest issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine and found only 2 Ovations, and both were in ads for other products. Damn.

Erm, I may be missing something here, but apart from a slightly different bracing pattern and an 1/8th inch at the nut, wouldn't a CA with a 12-fret neck and a deep bowl to all intents and purposes be a 1116/1616 Concert Classic?

Actually no, the worrying thing is, I did that from memory. I think I need therapy.

I am having dementia flashbacks here (where you can't remember where the car is parked or whether the dog is in or out, but beer party from basic training still brings clear shameful memories from 50 yrs past). Anyway, I recall the CA being advertised as a nylon string equivalent to a steel string for those who wanted to emulate Jerry Reed, Roger Miller and some other country stars who played nylon string, maybe even Willie. Steel string configuration, nylon string sound, and I think they touted the amplified ones as a unique country sound (not classical).

Yes Paul, That's exactly what I was saying. Basially an Ovation Classical with the narrower neck. Dave

Great idea, but I'd need a cutaway as well.

Ovation made a model #1674 Country Artist for two years ('83-'84) with a cutaway (I have a '84-see gallery) also the newer Country Artist #6773 are cutaways!
. . . . . . . .

The point I was trying to make is, they tried to market them as a guitar for country pickers, "classical" was avoided intentionally as they didn't want it associated with the wine and brie circuit. Drink BEER, play the Reed stumpwater lick, drive a Firebird, haul Coors to strange places, but, for God's sake, don't try that wimpy fingerpicking style that you have to do in front of an ORCHESTURE no less, and in a tuxedo.

not that kind of guitar.
