I just wanted everyone to know that I have registered as a member. I've always been a Martin guy, but I bought my first Ovation in May. Although I cannot duplicate the sound of my D-28, there is something about the playability of the Ovation that makes me play it rather than the Martin. Does anyone have any tips on how to make the sound more full when not plugged-in?

Thanks for your help. I will be asking a lot of seemingly moronic questions in the future.

Welcome Billy!

Bear in mind that there is NO such thing as a moronic question on this board - BUT, . . just be prepared for several diametrically opposed moronic responses to your question. :D

A "fuller" sound unplugged.
Are we talking a shallow-bowl model Ovation?
If that's the case, you might want to consider going a little heftier on the string gauge to get a little more "volume" out of it, but that's about all I can think of. Shallow-bowl Ovations were designed PRIMARILY for "plugged in" use. Keep in mind as well that the sound that YOU'RE hearing while playing might not be indicative to the overall sound of the guitar. The guitar is designed to project OUTWARD to the listener. Try having someone else play it while you sit across from them. It'll sound amazingly different.

ps: Don't worry . . . we won't hold that "Martian thing" against you. ;)

Try playing close to & facing into the corner of a room. There's an acoustic effect called "corner-loading" which causes a lift in bass response. From a room acoustics standpoint it's usually something you'd want to avoid, but in this case it might give you what you want to hear.

"moronic questions"? Mostly what we get here are moronic answers, welcome, you have already nailed my part of the participation. Please feed us some of those questions, I am ready if you are.
