Location: Austin, Tx | I'm interested in the new Tangent T257/T357 guitars from Ovation , but I can't find a dealer in Austin that stocks them. Has anybody here played one? What is your opinion on them? How do they compare to sound/feel of the Tangent MOB guitars?

Location: 6 String Ranch | The Tagament guitars are wonderful as well as the mutha-of-Bleu guitars. One will make you wrench your guts out and the other sooths the pain.
Actually there's been alot said about these in verrry heated discussions. The outcome was split. Some love them. I'm on the other side. |

Location: North Carolina | I checked the prices in a catolog last night and the Elite T is about $125 more than the Tangent/MOB. I haven't played them, but from what's been said, it sounds like money well spent.

Location: Austin, Tx | Thanks for your advice. I've looked at a lot of guitars, and price is not a consideration for me(I'm not a trust fund baby, I just work hard and buy what I like). I originally wanted a black Legend 1867 6 string just like my 1866 12 string, but the only one I could find was cherry and it lacks the tone quality and charachter that my 1866 has.
Good news, though! I found a dealer in Austin who carries the Tangents. So I'll get to check them out this weekend and decide for myself. |

If it was between a Tangent and an Elite T, I'd go with the T in a heartbeat. The acoustic sound from the mid depth bowl is amazing. And you'd have a USA built guitar vs. a Korean guitar.
But you've got to go where your heart is and nobody can tell you you're wrong. Just find and play them all. It's only a 3 hour drive to Houston. Go there on a Saturday and hit the music stores there to find an Elite T.
If you can live with a full body guitar, take a look at this on ebay. A very very early Elite, one of the first 250 built in 1983.

Location: Austin, Tx | Well, I tried a Tangent T357 yesterday.......I have hopes that the T257 Doesn't suck ass, too.
Has anybody bought a guitar on ebay? I'm afraid of what I'll get. Electronics that don't work, holes on the wrong side of the body, scratches covered up with markers, etc. |

Location: Scotland | Many of the board members, myself included are total ebay whores. Ebay is safe if you're sensible. Do your research, know what you want, ask lots of questions, check feedback. If you're not sure of something about an Ovation on ebay ask the board & you'll be steered in the right direction. If something smells wrong, leave it. If an instrument is misrepresented on ebay it amounts to fraud & in theory you have some comeback. Much of my current collection was sourced via ebay, any problems I've had were negligible compared to the great deals, like my 30th aniversary Mandolin for $500, my $200 '68 Deluxe Balladeer, or '68 Tornado for $140 |

Location: SoCal | I agree with Paul - I have now bought 8 guitars, 2 bass guitars, and a banjo on eBay, in addition to other things such as an Olympus E-20 digital camera - some new and some old. Three of the guitars are Custom Legends. Always a little risk when you can't see the guitar first. However, all were excellent prices, below Orion Blue Book and a lot lower than what I could buy locally. Unfortunate for the local guitar stores but probably wouldn't have been able to even find the guitars locally.
In each case, with prior correspondence and review of the seller's feedback - guitars exceeded my expectations. Seems that if a seller has good feedback, they work hard to avoid a "neutral" or "negative." By the way, if you are serious about a guitar and you have a concern - I have asked a couple of sellers for an additional picture(s)if I had any questions.
Only concern I have had on an older guitar is how do we tell if it is stolen. I always ask for the serial number but I don't know of an on-line registry to check. |

Location: Scotland | I have sold guitars to people who have complained that "the strings are too heavy" "I thought a Bass guitar had 4 strings, why does this have 6?" and "I don't think I can learn to play this, can I have my money back" I once sold a 335 copy to someone who complained that it wasn't loud enough & they left negative feedback because I suggested they should buy an amplifier. Most of the problems on ebay, either from the point of view of buyer or seller are down to inexperience, ignorance or stupidity. Knowledge is power and being in business would be great if it wasn't for customers.
The stolen guitar thing is difficult & a moral dilemma. I'd hate to think I'd bought someone's pride & joy, or worse still, their means of income, at a knock-down price on ebay. What's the solution? From my point of view I'm paranoid about my gear to the point of needing therapy. I've never had anything vital stolen but I know people who have. Interesting point, Tony. |

Location: SoCal | As to a possibly "hot" guitar - only time I have been comfortable about buying a guitar is from a legitimate musician or a pawn shop. Bought a 1619 CL from a pawn shop in Las Vegas area through eBay. Felt bad about the fact that a musician had to sell but at least the LVPD checks pawn shops for stolen items. Imagine a #1619 yr1979 w/OHSC for $350 and in perfect condition (at least after Paul T. was so kind to get me replacement tone/vol knobs-maybe no sweat for him but if he reads this, I owe him.)
I wonder if there is a stolen registry somewhere like there is for computers. |

Location: Austin, Tx | Well, I stoped looking for a new guitar, but I go to Guitar Center often to see a friend that works there. Guess what he had just recieved in..........an Elite T. I had my wife with me, which for most would spell disaster when trying to buy a new guitar. But for me, it's the best way. When she hears and sees a beautiful guitar, she want to take it home right now, and she doesn't even play. So anyway......I bought it!! It's the pewter one, but but my friend and my wife said it looked cool because I wear so much black.
So, thanks for your recommendation. This guitar is awesome!!!! |

I didn't want to jump into this thread earlier, as I have vocifericely supported the idea of the Elite T, even though I don't own one, (I would but my budget is limited). An American made guitar at a reasonable price, with a solid top and a good sound is what I keep harping for. I'm glad you are happy with your Elite T, as that is what all my harping is about. We need a good quality guitar that we can afford, AND a connection to the American made guitars that started the acoustic boom!

I've been informed my a mercenary here in NYC that the Elite T has been deemed a "good gigging" guitar for the local venues here in Brooklyn. I suppose what he means is that for the money, you get a lot of value in a durable guitar. |

I will have you know my adoptions have all been with the finest intentions and "for the good of the order"; I have not profitted (yeah, my fault- not bloodthirsty enough) from these transfers of ownership, so I am not guilty of pandering, anyway. I am guity of proselytizing, and proud of it!
Three weeks, and counting, on the 1127 refurbishment @ The Mothership! The 1111 needs a companion since the other O's left.
