Man, I don't know what's going on here lately!

Seems like all of a sudden every time I grab a guitar to play I find a problem. Last week, you may recall, I posted about the top on my Deluxe Balladeer starting to come loose. NOW, I've detected a very distinct rattle in the bridge area of my Custom Legend! If I strum a chord and then use my hand to apply pressure to the bridge while the chord is still ringing, the rattle stops. Any ideas what this could be indicative of?

Thanks,
Jeff

Could also be the pickup's wiring might be touching the underside of the top near the bridge?

If you shake the guitar and get the rattling sound, it is very much likely that it is the wiring.

I had this same thing last year on my CL. I wrote in on here to ask about a solution. Either Cliff or Paul T. mentioned the possiblity of strap-lock buttons rattling, which I didn't even consider. Sure enough, I took my strap off and the rattling IN THE BRIDGE immediately stopped.

Frankly, it was strange as hell because I SWORE the buzzing/rattling sound was coming from the bridge. Originally, when I put pressure on the bridge the rattling stopped, as you describe. But the bridge wasn't the source, it was just resonating.

So, I'm passing it on. Try taking your strap off while your sitting and playing.

Good news!

Just for the heck of it, I loosened the strings and felt under the top to see if I could detect anything loose or cracked. I didn't feel anything unusual, but after I tightened the strings back up the rattle was GONE! So maybe it was nothing more than a stray wire, as Cliff suggested. Hopefully, that's the end of it and I can consider the problem solved.

Thanks for all your input...
