...an Ovation Magnum II solidbody bass. Found it at Atomic Music in College Park, MD on Thursday, showed up to claim it on Saturday.

I got it for $300 INCLUDING the case. One-piece mahogany body, single coil/ humbucker pickups, graphic EQ, active electronics, string mute - I really can't believe what a good deal that is. Ovation solidbodies are astonishingly underrated.

As others have said, it can put out a Rickenbacker-like grunt or a J-bass sound, depending on how you set it. I'm no Jaco Pastorius but I love this thing anyway.

By the way, Atomic still has a Magnum I, also listed at $299, but pretty dinged-up (so you could probably talk them down pretty far)... damn this GAS.

I might have to grab that Magnum I. I haven't been to Atomic in awhile, but I always end up leaving with something.
