With my 1861 balladeer, I've always changed to the standard exp16, the same as they use in the factory. Anyone notice a difference say using the D'addario ej16 phospher bronze. Do any of you find a difference with the coated strings vs. non-coated on a shallow bowl? Opinions?

I've been using Elixir light Nanoweb coated strings on my SS Elite 12 string (.010-.047). Like 'em a lot.

It's time for me to also change strings on my Celebrity CC057. Has anyone used Webstrings and if so, are they decent quality strings? The prices on them are very attractive. What is the difference between the Phosphor Bronze and the 80/20 and does one sound better than the other on the Celebrity models?

Thanks

Ya know... for the price of em, you could just try 'em and let us all know.

Searching here (search! huh? what?), there are a few references to webstrings.com, and I didn't see any horror stories, just pleased customers.

I switched from the D'Addarios to Martin SP phospher bronze on my CS257, and they seemed to open the guitar up a bit. I like the EXPs better than any other coated string I've tried, but I prefer the non-coated variety. I really like the GHS signature bronze alot, but they're hard to find.

The .054 low E on the Martins and GHS sets in place of the .053 on the D'Addarios gives me a little more low end I believe, but that could just be my imagination. Works for me though... YMMV

I am stuck on D'Addario 12's, most likely because I started saving those Player Points years ago and am saving up for something better than a T-shirt, tho the Second Coming may occur before I have the 10,000 required for the Zion guitar they used to advertise....

Anyway, I switched from the EJ16 to the coated strings for no other reason than the fact that they do last a long time. The downside is that they don't sound quite as snappy and bright at first. That isn't much of a downside for extra weeks of usage.

I might try the Martins if they gave me a shot at that Zion guitar...... ;)

I have an 1862 SS Balladeer and I find the best balance for acoustic and plugged-in sound is the Elixier Polyweb Custom Lights (.011-.052). You can get them at eBay for about $13.00 per set (with shipping)but you have to buy 3 sets. They will mix and match with other Elixirs. I've tried the new D'Addario EXP's and I was very dissatisfied. Although the EXP's sound nice and bright, they squeak more than regular strings and are also harder on the fingers for some reason. I find the Elixirs to have more bass response than other strings and they are super smooth. They get frayed a bit with time, but it's only an appearance thing. The sound quality does last much longer than ordinary strings. I also have a deep-bowl Custom Legend which I use the Polyweb medium-lights (.012-.056) and acoustically the guitar sounds as good as it gets. As for the Webstrings, they are worth what they cost-cheap strings with cheap sound. I tried them about two years ago and I thought that they were the worst strings I ever put on a guitar. Elixirs allow you to go skinny on the top and fat on the bottowm with the in-between gauges and I find that they work out the best. They do cost more but are worth it. I have five different Ovations and have the Polywebs on all five. IMHO there are no better strings available.
