| i was just given a balladeer yesterday that a friend didn't want any more. the style is 1111, the serial number is 004632, so this means it was made in 1972 supposedly. this guitar has the darker finish and is truly in mint/perfect condition. it looks like it was never played!!! i was wondering if anyone knows how much this guitar is worth approximately? i don't plan on selling it though, as the sound is unlike anything i've ever heard before. it is an incredible instrument, valuable or not!!! but still if someone out there has any info on it, i'd be much obliged!!! thanks.......... |

Welcome. I have the same guitar (ser#3521). I bought it new.
I can't tell you how much it's worth but I can tell you that I wouldn't think of parting with mine.

You have been given a guitar that you probably can't duplicate anywhere. You could put it on Ebay and get a few hundred dollars or keep it and play it, realizing that not many of them are around. Early Ovations in good condition are great guitars but haven't reached the insane values of early Fenders and Gibsons, but they probably play a lot better.

Location: Carle Place, NY | KPK: The 1111 Balladeers sold for about $350 new back in the early 70's. Even in perfect shape they rarely fetch more than $300 on eBay now. I bought one that has a few surface cracks in the top that plays and sounds great for $167 (with original case) on eBay a few months ago. My advice-keep it!! You own a rare gem Some more advice-try a set of medium/light (.012-.056)Elixir Polyweb strings. Mine sounds incredible with them. Also, the one that I got had a plastic saddle that was a little loose in the slot. For $10 I bought an extra-wide bone saddle blank and with some sandpaper and elbow grease fabricated a new saddle. I made it with a very tight fit. With the bone saddle and the Elixirs the guitar sounds fabulous and if you had you eyes closed you would think it was a vintage Martin. There are many here at the fan club that believe that the older non-electric bridge Ovations have superior acoustic sound. I can't say for sure if that's so, but I have two other deep bowl models, an '81 Custom Legend 1619 and an '83 Elite 1537. The 1111 has a different sound from either of those, not better or worse, just different. Considering that the CL and Elite sold for about 3 times as much as the 1111, that's quite a lot of quality sound for the price. The true value of a mint condition 1111 is much greater that the actual market price these days. Maybe 10 years from now, who knows? Keep it, play it regularly and the sound will continue to improve. |

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma | I bought my 1976, 1111-6 on ebay a few months ago for about $170.00 without a case and I LOVE IT!.. Mine does have three tiny surface cracks below the bridge but you can't see them unless you look for them. I know that the older Balladeers don't get much respect in regards to price on e-bay but they are great gems... Hang on to yours and enjoy the unique sound and playability that it has... I know I wouldn't sell mine... It's become my favorite guitar..
