I have an old Viper that I picked up FOR FREE. However, it is missing the bridge, pickups and electronics. There is a tuner insert that is missing.
I talked to Ovation, and they want about $350 for the parts.

I like new stuff as much as the next guy, but I can buy a WHOLE ONE FOR THAT ON Ebay!

Wht other models used the bridge and pickups, and where can I find an alternative source for the parts?

Thanks

As a Viper owner that bought mine new in the 70's, and respects and loves them, I have to advise you that they are sold CHEAP CHEAP. So buy another one and use your freeby for parts, or shop around and get a beat up wreck with the parts you need for PEANUTS. That is the sorry state of this beautiful and important guitar.

Thanks Bailey, for the advice

I spent the first 6 1/2 years of my life in Las Cruces, and still go back for the hiking in the Oregon Mountains (Spelling?)

Welcome to what we generally call the ORGANS, because they look like organ pipes to the early Spanierds. When we moved here from CA, my son and I played country/bluegrass at the Organ Mountain Lodge in the town of Organ at the base of the mountains. The lodge was an 1800 's stagecoach stop and Organ was an old mining town, I had an office there for my Gov't Contracting business in the old motel. Those days have passed, but the Organs are still there as they have been for millions of years (They are made up of the granite of the earliest earth existance that poked it's way through everything that has come since).

My mom once shot a rattlesnake there with a .22 pistol with her eyes closed (she was scared). It was quite a story for a while amongst our famity and friends . . . I always like Alemagordo (spelling again) because of the missile range, and the sand. My da and I used to take the flat fender there and go boondogging out there somewhere.

As you can see the electronics are fairly straight forward. As for the bridge; there were two different types.
1) three point mount, required a hole going though the guitar body. This is the Ovation made version.
2) two point mount, guitar body does not have hole through body. All metal version made by Schaller.

You need to make sure that you get the bridge mounting studs with the bridge: the Ovation and Schaller bridges require different ones.
Note that you CAN put a Schaller bridge on a body with the though-hole, you just have to plug the hole. Ovation used a metal stud on early versions with the Schaller bridge.

The bridges were used on the Breadwinner, Deacon, Preacher, Viper, Viper III, UK II & Breadwinner Limited.

Al,
I don't really care... I just think it's rude. I have a big enough monitor and fast enough bandwidth. But I would guess many of our friends across the world will never see what we are even talking about.
Also, as I mentioned in an eMail.. $350 for the parts is outstanding. If you buy a used guitar, you may or may not get all the parts you need, they won't be new, and you will still have a guitar that isn't complete.

tony

first it messes up the flow of the page.

second oversized images take forever to load on dialup and low speed connections.

third if you have a small monitor it is often difficult to view the image.

fourth it is a one of miles' pet peeves.

But it's fun to look at. Is there a similar page for Deacons? I'd like to have it.

But on a more positive note, they are in BruDev's gallery here, so if one needs them later... they are there. There are shop diagrams for most all of the models. I have an entire book of them. If Bur doesn't post the Deacon ones, I can scan mine.
