Joined: February 2004 Posts: 12 | I have a '85 custom legend. It has the rich, fullbodied, resonatin sound. No brassy highs. The highs just compliment the lows. I had a Adamas CVT, but had to send it back (bought unseen) because it had such (for my ears) annoying highs. I realize comparing carbon fiber to wood is unfair, but I would appriciate anyones opinion about the elite lx vs the legend lx. I love the deep sound of my custom legend, but I love the look of the elite. I am afraid that with the multi-sound holes it will sound like the CVT. Any opinion on the differance between the two. I know I need to play 'em but the stores I'm around don't have any..............THANKS

But I haven't and don't know anybody yet who's done a comparision of the Elite LX and the Legend LX. I'm guessing that there won't be a huge difference between the two but I don't know. Rick Hall at Ovation said that his choice was the Elite over the Legend. But the people here who are buying the Legend LX are pretty happy with it.

IMHO...( and I stress that), I bet you will not find what bothered you on the CVT in the Elite LX. I was dead set on an Elite LX but at the last instant wound up with an AD-II (which after 6 weeks I am still geeked over). I like your idea of contrasting guitars. I beleive there is still an Elite LX in my future. I have played a Elite LX and again, IMHO, I think one will make a great addition to my collection someday. (WLOS) Brad

My Elite LX to me is a very "acoustic" guitar. It responds to the different ways I'll play it. I am able to pull out the deep tones when I want and it responds with the full spectrum. What area are you in? Any Members with guitars you can compare? Also, if you have a good music store near you ask them to order both on the promise that you will buy one. If their any good they will do this for you. From what I have seen there is not a problem with the LX's hanging on the wall for very long. You may always agonize over which you shoulda got! Get Both! And buy her some jewelry.

I have an ear towards the bass end of the spectrum, so the bright (Taylors) don't suit my tastes. The only way to truly find the answer is to play 'em, but everyones opinion helps Also, I bought a Taylor 410 limited and it was to tingy for me as well. I might just be used to this '85 custom that has completly opened up and sings my songs. So, you ask, "why do ya need another guitar when you have one that ya like". OOOOPPPS, I forgot I was talkin' with people that understand my disease, and not my wife! Everyday above ground (with a guitar) is a good day!

I love the sound and electronics. The neck is a little fatter and rounder on the 1777, compared to the CL. I guess I'm a center round hole guy. I would recommend the 1777LX. I bought it sight unseen through Musicians Friend. It is one great guitar. Tommy

Standing Dave brings them back to life at any expense and Tony C runs an Orphanage. Together they are like Mother Theresa for Ovations. Elite LX - no tingy, brassy or jangly here. I run EJ 16 Phospher Bronze D'Addarios. Still want to hear an LX Deep bowl...

My personal preference, which I'll state out front, is for the round-sound-hole models of Ovation guitars. My call would be is that you would prefer the Legend LX. The Elite LXs (both Standard and regular) have a stronger mid-range sound than the Balladeer and the Legend. The Legend struck me as having the most bass. Each of the LX models has its own particular aural "flavor". The Elite LXs do NOT sound like the CVT, Paul M. is quite correct. They have a more "open" mid-range sound. In fact, ALL of the LXs seem to have a more open sound, much like(dare I say it....) Taylors. Roger
