Does anyone know what the black material is made of on the older Ovation brown cases? I am talking about the black tape like stuff that goes around the metal part in the center of the case. I took if off one of my old cases, and I would like to find something to replace it with. Is this stuff some sort of tape? Does anyone know what I could use for this? Where I could find it?

Look up a case company called TKL. They may know what it was. They didn't make them then but do now.

Paul, I did exactly the same thing - removed the tattered old tape. I replaced it with 1/2 or 3/4 (forget) inch wide black cloth electrical tape. Fit perfectly and looks great. Cost me about 2 bucks and I have 99% of the roll of tape left over. I would send it to you, but honestly, you can buy it for less than it would cost to mail it.

Thanks guys, Dave did you glue the cloth electical tape on the case? I am trying to remove the old glue that is still on the case. That stuff is tough.

I cleaned the old glue residue off with "Goo-Gone". The tape is just attached with it's own stickiness.

I did the same thing that Dave described. It is old electrical cloth tape with a very sticky back...works better than the original stuff they had.

I looked at every electrical supply place in town today. Two places had the cloth electrical tape, but both of those were white. I sure am having trouble finding the black cloth tape.

Paul, Electricians go through this black tape like a pit bull goes through a pork-chop. The store must have it. Are you sure you are asking for the right stuff? It's just called "cloth electrical tape". I've never seen white, only black.

Dave, that is what I asked for. They all had the regular electrical tape, but the cloth tape really messed them up. I got an email from Willard, he is going to send me a roll. Thanks Willard!

Paul,
How about a little exotic wood inlay instead?
