Location: NC | I am into easy jazz for my listening pleasure and want to head toward a jazz style of play. I bought a Elite LX and was wondering if anyone out there has success with theirs in playing jazz tunes...........I know I may take a lick for this but the soft listening of the likes of Nora Jones and Mercy Malick. Just drop a line if your Elite fits the bill. Man I love these guitars and the Elite is my first...........is this an addiction where you buy different models over the years and are unable to sell any of them for they become like kids? |

Location: Clermont FL | Hey Elite LX, I play smooth and some traditional jazz on my Elite 5868. I bought it from a really good jazz player who just had too many guitars. I record my music using the Ovation and it sounds great, and of course the ease of playing is the key. For recordings I run it through a Yamaha EMX 640 powered mixer and I get a clean smooth sound.

Location: Minden, Nebraska | Maybe Al Dimeola breaks into smooth every once in awhile..... Larry Coryell, too.
I think a lot of jazz gets played on O's. I have tried to cover some of Larry Carlton's acoustic stuff on my Ovation. The fault in the transcription is not the guitar's. With the right EQ, you can get a great sound.
The older owner's manuals used to include a recommended EQ setting on the OP24 for jazz, if I remember right. I don't know about the new ones. |

I LOVE JAZZ . . . . but the "SmoothJazz" FM-station here in NY (while they DO once in a (great) while play stuff like AcousticAlchemy, Peter White, Pat Metheny, Laurence Juber & such, the vast majority of it is syrupy Peabo Bryson vocals or the AntiChrist that IS Kenny(fucking)"G"!! |

Location: Clermont FL | Hey All, Oops, I set the wrong tone when I wrote smooth jazz !! I lean toward Lee Ritenour and the older Benson styles. Kenny G is not jazz in any form. The words jazz and Kenny G should not be used together in the same decade. Sorry about that. Ovations are great for jazz, the guy I bought mine from played hard be-bop and traditional jazz on the 5868. Stu |
