But with November coming up, I have to make up my mind soon! I would appreciate and guidance anyone out there who have made such a decision before can give me. The time has come to, once and for all, to thin out my collection. Its a tough job. Many years ago I sold my Gretch Country Gentleman guitar. I had bought it for a song at a local music store that was going out of business. I've always regretted it. In this case the problem is three fold. One, I have too many guitars that are just sitting around. They need the tender caress of a loving owner. Secondly, I did promise the wife. Thirdly, I have decided to have a guitar build just for me. It is a one-in-a-life-time decision and I'm very excited about it. But it means, many guitars must go. So, did you ever have to make up your mind? Say yes to one and let the other one... ah, you know. How did you decide. I just want to add every guitar I have is a beauty. I have tried playing each one, but they all have their +'s and -'s. HELP !!!!!!

It may be nice, it may be the best I had at the time. But things change. There are new interests, new styles, new direction. The ones with the deepest dust ought to go first.

I sold a couple of guitars back in the first part of the year, and have heard myself telling people many times since then that I had pared down my collection. I guess I really believed it, until a friend reminded me today that I still have 8 or 9. I know just what you mean about getting to know one again after a layoff - I experienced it this week. About 3 weeks ago I let a friend borrow the Variax (the same friend has had the Aria Cardinal for a while). He's recording intro/outro music for some local guy that has a deal for a sitcom pilot and used the banjo on the variax for the short soundtrack. I got the variax in March, and have only played it and one of the Ovation acoustics since then, but since it wasn't around this week I picked up the Les Paul that I haven't touched in 6 months. It was good to shake hands and renew the friendship. One final note - if I had to guess, I would say that the determining factor in your decision to move some guitars is rooted in the second reason of the three you listed (I think it involved a spousal promise). I mean, I appreciate the tender loving hands stuff but most players aren't that altruistic if left to their own devices! P.S. What are you selling? (See - now I can justify new purchases since I made some room last spring by selling a couple!)

I have seen a few of the brethren lately do some swapping of instruments! Assign an approximate value and entertain some exchanges. Perhaps a 45 day return policy or something to that effect. Hold local OFC gatherings to do these swaps (wish)!

I dunno, but you'll think of something, cause you're probably smarter than I am, if you consider yourself a player then that simplifies things, over the past year what have used on a gig? Keep those and unload the rest. For me, my needs (as opposed to my wants) are served by 4 guitars, a beater to take to the farm house when we go snowboarding, a telecaster, a steel string and a nylon string. I hope this helps.

And even after buying the Glen Campbel Deluxe Balladeer (which arrives Wednesday, not nearly soon enough -- after all, I've been waiting for one for 35 years!), when I told her that this was my 50th birthday guitar, she replied, "No, this is your 15th wedding anniversary guitar -- you're birthday isn't for another few months." Am I lucky or what??

Am I lucky or what?? you're very lucky. In my case, here what it comes down to. UK-II - untouchable Paragon #104 - untouchable Haida Gwaii - untouchable Classical Celebrity vs Cedar topped Ovation - Ovation wins Breedlove 12-string vs Ovation Glen Campbell 12-string - jury still out. Breedlove wins in lower tones. Ovation plays better and is more even. Adamas II vs Elite 1537. This is REALLY the tough question. Many many +'s and -'s. Adamas top was cracked & repaired by Ovation. This is a battleground. Custom Legend. Can't say. Top warped. Crack repaired. Sounds great, but who would want one with a warped/repaired top?? Haida Gwaii 6 string, might let it go, can't say for sure. Any suggestions are welcomed.

There was no Haida Gwaii Guitars when I was there, and hadn't heard of them until now! Learn something new everyday... Bradley - how does the Haida respond to the changing weather? One of the reasons for the popularity of the Seagulls or any Norman is that it's build to handle a Canadian climate - so they sell real well in the Nordic countries. Curious about the Haida and it's behaviour with climate changes??? Dano

The artwork on the guitar is Haida Indian designed. The company conisted of 2 former Larrivee guitar employees and two Haida Gwaii artists. They were from Vancouver, BC. Great guitars. The two guitar makers went on to form Paragon Guitars I have had no problems whatsoever with weather on these guitars, each guitar had a humidifier in the case. The only guitar I had a problem with was my Custom Legend (the dry weather cracked the top). As noted, one reason for selling is to have them build a custom guitar for me. There prices are very reasonable, but are going up soon because the word is getting out on these wonderful guitars. Last year you could get one in about 6 weeks, now it takes 11 months! I upload some pictures into the gallery, take a look.
