I bought this standard Balledeer used in 1975. The prior owner had removed the SN# sticker which was located at the upper margin of the sound hole. Here is a description of the guitar. I don't know how specifically dated it can be from this identification but I'm hoping for any ideas you might have. Natural finish. 2 thick and 2 thin black lines at the binding margin. black light wrinkle bowl. tuning keys with the guitar in a rectangle impression. neck 14 frets outside of body with dot fret inlays.Frets I just replaced probably original were cemented in. front of head is more golden brown.back of head and neck more reddish with 3 ply midline.Acoustic only. Rear strap hardware only- says "4 Holly jack nut USA pat 2964969.I can send more info or pictures if anyone thinks that it's possible to date this instrument and is willing to help. I've owned it for 30 years and will continue to do so.It's still the one I play most and it's in great shape, original except refret.
Thanks for any help or referals.
John

It sounds like a basic Balladeer. A good guitar. What does the bridge look like? Is it a textured or shiny bowl?

Take a look though the gallery and see if any look the same. I'm guessing a 1111-4 Balladeer. If the bridge is pointed at the base or rounded would matter.

I have a 1112 with endearing characteristics.

Welcome.

Thanks for responding. The bowl is shallow and textured. Only the peaks of the wrinkles are shiney. The rest is dull appesring. The bridge is bare wood (mahogony?) and the base area where the strings enter is rounded. The bridge doesn't look too different from 2 newer ovations that I have.I'm wondering what some of the changes were that would date a guitar as pre or post that date. When did the bowl tecture change? Tuning keys? Internal frame design? Anything that could give me a range of possible dates.
I'll check the gallery.
