Hi Guys,

I'm a new member. Someone on www.thegearpage.com turned me onto this place. I found a 1988 collector's series at a local store for $650. Guitar is in good+ condition.

What's it really worth? I tend to buy stuff and try it for a few weeks and then sell it if it doesn't work out and I want to make sure I'm not paying too much.

Thanks!

The '88 is a nice guitar. Price depends on what it is worth to you, and the definition of "good+" condition. I would say $650 is a fair price if it's in Ex+ or near-Mint condition, no dings, scratches, nicks or other signs or wear. Using my definition of "good+" I would try to talk him down to $500. But it's hard to say without seeing and playing the guitar.

I agree with Dave. My more extended response was in response to Jack's direct email to me.

BTW, Jack is a very accomplished musician and a wonderful addition to the OFC.

Welcome, Jack. I did a quick visit to your website; interesting stuff. I've been incorporating sweep picking in my technique for years; it's great for playing "flurries" of notes at blinding speed. Barney Kessel did amazing sweep picking, and was doing it, I think, long before it was even called sweep picking. Was it Frank Gambale who first started calling it "sweep" picking?
