Buy now or wait, that is the question ...

I'd like to get some opinion on these gigbags. I think only the European OFC'ers will know the answer to this one.
I've seen the chieftain which looks pretty sturdy and can be had for $60.00. The GX40 which is its replacement is coming to the US in November, and will probably list @ $129 and will probably be had for about $120.00. What I was wondering was, if the improvements in the GX were worth waiting for? Or are they just cosmetic? Do the improvements make it heavier? Is it worth double the price? Not that $120 is a fortune ...
The reason I'm looking to upgrade is that my current POS works great for more my indestructable tele-copy and celebrity. I just sling it over my shoulder and hop on my bike and I'm off. I've got a case for my new country artist, but of course it's not bikeable and I don't trust my current gigbag to protect it.
Thanks for your help,
Rick

Rick,

I've got a case for my new country artist, but of course it's not bikeable and I don't trust my current gigbag to protect it.

Have you looked at something like this:

Case Straps

Personally, I would never trust my Precious to a gig bag.... especially whilst riding a bike

My gut says that a tribal planet bag is the way to go;everything to its own purpose ...

I guess I'll have to wait for Paul to get back from shanghai, the lucky bastard. While I haven't been there, I've heard that it is a happening place. When I get paid to travel it usually is a place like Albany.

As for biking with a guitar, it's not an uncommon sight here in NYC, especially up in williamsburg and the east village.

just to clarify ... Albany is a sleepy government town in the foot hills of the adirondaks ... not a bad place ... it's just that i'd rather be paid to go to paris or shanghai and i'm envious of Paul T. and his trip.

Me Too!!! :D
By the way. tribal Planet seems to be the way to go. A friend of mine just got two for his Taylors. He told me, that he never realized That a Gig bag could be made so good.

I just got back from Shanghai where I was helping out in the Tribal Planet Booth at the Music-China trade fair. If anyone is serious about buying these bags we may be able to work out something with the US distributor. Email me and I'll talk to the boss-man at TP. Or maybe we can work something out with Al & you can buy through him. Tribal Planet launched several new case designs at the trade fair & they are amazing, should be in the USA soon.

To answer your question, the GS05 Cheiftan & GS04 Warrior range have been discontinued & replaced by the GX series. There may be some old stock of the GS04/5 in the US, but the improvements in the GX are great & make them a much better case. The rigidity of the top, back and sides has been increased, the GX10, 20, 30 & 40 all have a neck rest, & the molded pockets are now detachable. The padding on the 40 is now 28mm, where the older models were 20mm. The GX's may actually be a little lighter. I have some old models & new models at the warehouse so I can check & let you know on the weight. They are being made in a different factory to the GS bags & build quality is stunning

Just to back up what others have said. I've just bought a Tribal Planet gigbag from Paul and am delighted with it. They never had these things in my day! My son takes my old Balladeer in and out of school using it (with just a little extra padding at the neck) and I'm not worried about it at all.
