A few of you have sold guitars on line. I need to sell a few but I don't know where to get boxes to ship them in. I tried a local music store, but they didn't have any and if they did, they shred them every day and won't hold any for me. (No wonder I didn't by that Martin from them).

Anyway, any ideas?

TIA

Try a bicycle shop, the boxes are bigger than normal guitar boxes, but that just gives you some leeway.

The UPS Stores do SELL boxes that are big enough, although free is better. The problem with bicycle boxes is that they tend to have had a hard life prior to getting thrown out, plus you'll definitely have to strip out the interior sections that are made to fit bicycle frames securely(bicycles arrive at the shop in pieces and have to be assembled).

I have seen people selling guitar boxes on line, either through ebay or on a retail site. Try doing a google search for "guitar box".

Try a different music store. Or find out when they shred them and show up an hour before then.

Deja.com has a few suggestions like check the bins behind the music stores, bike boxes, and a link to a place that sells them.

Thanks,

Stop by an autobody shop. We get lots of boxes. That's where I get all of mine. Sometimes I have to be a little creative with a boxcutter & strapping tape. Good place to score bubble wrap & foam too.
I bought a Cheap Charlie tape handle/cutter thing & it's well worth the 5 or 10 bucks it cost if you pack more than one or two boxes.

Shipping stores, like "Mailboxes Plus" and other such places will sell you boxes. Another place is U-Haul rental centers. If you are looking for free boxes, dumpster diving is your best choice.

Appliance stores, too. Gee, this will give you an opportunity to exercise all those old geometry skills, making "custom" boxes. Thinking in three dimensions.....what a concept.

if you start with a refrigerator box and cut it down for a guitar and consider the time you take, the 10 bucks someone charges for a box is cheap.

I used Yahoo yellow pages and found a store called ULine. They sell 8 x 20 x 50 guitar boxes for 6.23. Problem is, you have to order 5 boxes. I don't want to give my wife any ideas.
