Happy new year from Finland!

I have had this Ovation electric guitar from -87 and the dealer didn't know the actual age. Yesterday I started to find out what that guitar is. I foud that Viper- model is the nearest, although my guitar has thinner pick-ups. Can someone tell me what this guitar is? Serialnumber is E 8679? Photo is here:

Looks like a Viper to me. What do you mean the pups are thinner? Do you have a better shot of the pups?

I added a photo of the pick-up to the same address.

Interesting. Perhaps it's a replacement pickguard with single coils? Those don't look like the (original) pups in my Viper.

If there were other pups used in the Viper, this would be the place to find out, though. :) Nice looking guitar. How does it sound?

The Viper never came with p/u's like those. They, and I would guess the pickguard, are aftermarket.

I've seen a million mods like that to Ovation solids. Those pickups look like they could be DiMarzio. The selector switch is a replacement also. It'll probably sound fine, but to me replacement pickups on Ovations make them lose some of their charm.

Definately a replaced job, nicely done for sure and I'm sure it sounds good too.

Thank you for your valuable information. I like to play this guitar in silence without amp. The sound is a little bit too thin and dry for me with the amp, so I guess I have to find the original pickyard. Can someone tell what materials are used in this guitar?

You have the Maple neck and most likely the Alder body.

There are several online outlets for pickguards to replace or modify.

Nice Viper!

Sorry to hear it sounds thin. With the original pups, I can get anywhere from tele twang to icepick strat to warm (almost muddy) jazzbox tones out of my Viper. It's versatility is the primary reason I haven't flipped it, as I had strongly suggested to the boss that I would. :)
