Hi Eddiejam here found this sight by accident.was looking for info. on guitar i recently acquired.I play a fender telecaster with a blues deluxe tube amp.I bought an ovation viper in mint shape with factory case and oweners manual for two hundred bucks. I bought it because it was in such good shape. when I started playing it I was blowed away by the ease handling however I was not happy with the sound a little high pitched for me. thought about replacing the bridge pickup with a humbuckerany comments. serial #19243 would be appreciated

If it is truly in mint shape it is easily worth more than $200. Recent excellent to minty vipers have gone on eBay in the $500 plus range.

Changing out the pickup will certainly blow the value.....but you will have an excellent playing guitar with the sound you are hopefully looking for!

Stephen

Keep the original pup and use an aftermarket guard if mods are required (save the original).

I’d rather be sleeping. Since insomnia is winning out right now, I’m trying to be productive by getting some research done. Retirement… be careful what you wish for.

Back to O solid bodies. They represent an exceptional value in fine playing guitars.

I’d hate to see another mint vintage ovation modified. Maybe one of the OFC members knows of a cure. If the fix entails taking it off your hands for a couple hundred bucks so you can buy another tele, you didn’t get them thinking hard enough. Maybe you’ll need to repost with a new Topic Heading/Message Icon to get some attention, i.e. “HELP! My pups sound like *$%#, please help me before I turn my mint viper into a Les-Viper."

"I myself pastor a small country church."

Noah, which small Country is that?

Had to do it.

I've gone on posts earlier with my Soapbox for preserving the originls unless they are beat up and then renovating and repairing as much as is needed.

I have a black Breadwiener with some DiMarzio Pups that go HB and Non-HB. It came to me for $310 so I can't complain. I would love to experience the dual 9 volt eating power of the original sound but that seems to be going for about $600 lately.
Ah, Providence! The under wound DiMarzios will work great on the 12 string Deacon. I would love it if the BW Pups became available to me!

I have found that it is relatively simple to exchange Pickguards/Pups and there are a lot of resources available. Although it drastically changes the sound I don't feel it permanently disfigures the instrument. It is fair game!

Patience?

Mwoody , thanks for your comments although I must admit I dont know what kind of instrument you are talking about. I guess I amm illiterate on these things but sounds like I have a good start on collecting if I replaced the pup I wouldnt ruin the original pick guard Its realy cool to talk with afellow worker Eddiejam
