Location: Philadelphia, PA | I found my lovely 1778 T to be neck heavy when I play standing up. It was kind of cumbersome to feel like I had to "hold" the guitar up with my fret hand as I played.
So, to remedy this I used a little piece of leather-string, and hooked up my strap the old fashioned way (the leather string holding the guitar strap at the headstock, as opposed to utilizing the strap peg on the body).
The neck no longer wants to fall, and the guitar stays where I leave it when I get my hands off.
My question is, does this method put extra tension on the neck that could affect the guitar in a bad way?
I just got her ya know, I don't want her to suffer. |

Location: Central Oregon | Guitar players have been strapping on guitars the way you described forever. It didn't hurt the old all wood guitars so I can't imagine how it could hurt an Ovation. |

Hell Yes, if a guitar can't be supported that way, sue the factory. If it feels right you should be able to do it. I only support this position on playing guitars. I got an insult from somebody who saw the strap button I installed on the heel of my Yamaki. The opinion was I had destroyed any value the guitar might ever have and that I should have connected my strap at the head as you have done.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Personal opinion, but I HATE the looks of a guitar strapped at the peghead. It's just goofy and all I can think of is Peter Paul & Mary. I would opt instead to use the standard Ovation strap button points but from the butt end strap button I would hang a little pouch that I could fill with fishing sinkers until just right to counter balance the heaviness of the neck. I'm SERIOUS. |

Location: SoCal | I have several without the top strap button...early 1127, Martin, and Tak. Looks fine.
There is even a quick release product available so you can remove the strap without untying.
As to adding weight - just plugging into a patch cord will probably add enough weight to balance it. |
