A 1674 CA (cutaway) just sold for $820 on ebay! That's a new high as far as I know.

Paul, in 2002 you stated that O's were going up about 20%. Think you pegged it for 2002 and 2003. Now, we are seeing some nice models doing well. IMHO, most of the discretionary inventory has been sold on eBay.

There also seems to be an increase of overseas buyers. Maybe that accounts for some of it.

Probably, the buyer of this guitar is from France.

A more likley explanation for the high price for a wide neck Ovation : finger style guitar is becoming more popular, and the value of Folklores and Folk Artists has increased accordingly.

Either that, or I am self deluded, (again)

The 1674 Country Artist Cutaway is one of the rarest models Ovation ever made. Available only for 2 years, 83 and 84 and it does not compare in looks or feel to the new reissue, IMHO.

Very few people have them.

I have 2, a Sunburst and a Natural.
I know Sleepy Bones has one and Trboy has another one.

Anybody esle?

Lem, when you say it doesn't compare in looks or feel to the reissue, is that good or bad? How doesn't it compare?

I'm guessing 1) gloss neck, 2) better hardware, 3) a rosette that doesn't make you loose your lunch ... And THAT is coming from someone who actually owns one of the new ones!

I've owned the non-cutaway original (1624) and now the new style cutaway (6773) and the new one is quite superior in my opinion. Much better acoustic tone and somehow it even seems to "play" better, what ever that means. But based on those who own the cutaway 1674 Serge and Paul, it sounds like that one takes it to a whole other level. Plus it's a bit of a rare bird. I doubt more than 2-300 were made.

Sleepy,

Good point. I say the old 1674 is a much nicer nylon string guitar IMHO.

It has the old shallow Artist bowl, a bit shallower than the new mid bowl, which to me, it feels better, glossy neck and headstock, 5 ply body binding, old style rossette which that of course is a personal preference. The new "indian blanket" rosette which is inlayed in the wood I do like it, but I prefer the look of the old one.

The neck shape is just a lot nicer than the new one, so playability is nicer.

Also much better tone acoustically from all the few new CAs I have played.

It has the older preamp with the old volume and tone concentric knobs, so I would just upgrade to the OP-PRO. Which I have now on my Sunburst 1674.

So maybe someday Ovation will reissue a new version of the nice good old 1674.

Blind Lemon:

You should post your "dream" CA on the board. Bet others would be interested.

Sure.

Since Ovation just issued the LX Custom Legend, my idea is for similar specs for a Custom Country Artist:

Nylon string CA specs (1 7/8 nut width, 14 fret neck)
LX mid bowl cutaway
AAA Spruce top
Abalone top border
5 ply body binding like the original
Inlayed abalone rosette, like the Custom Legend
Bound blank ebony board
Gloss neck and headstock with gold/pearl Schaller tuners and abalone logo
OP-PRO with both low and hi z outputs
Natural and sunburst finishes

How is that?

Actually, with a name like Blind Lemon Parker, playing a guitar like that, people will think that either you're a pimp or that you stole it.
