If you mean the VAT, try this:

Here's another:

Probably the same price as the guitar! One reason I left Great Britain years back were the outrageous taxes. The US ain't cheap but it is a whole lot better if you make a decent income.

You have to pay both VAT & import duty, which works out at around 23% of the declared value. To add insult to injury the couriers will charge a fee of between £10 & £20 for collecting the duty on behalf of HM customs.

Other people from the UK!! I feared I was the only one for a few days there...

Quite glad for this thread, as I'm 4 mths into waiting for a Viper to be completed and sent over to me from a shop in New York. I knew there would be duty to pay, but so glad I can plan for how much now! Alpep - you're right, it's still saving me on UK list price.

I was seriously considering buying two, selling one when they arrived, and bingo bango bongo I'd have a Viper that cost me nigh on nothing. Couldn't quite raise the necessary, though. Darn.

JB (looking forward to the new member of my Ovation family arriving shortly.

Hello Steph,

You will find that are a quite a few of us here in the UK, but not sure how many in total. You will also find this site interesting and full of information.

Paul is spot on with the rates given and it is still worth importing from across the pond.

Yeah, there's a few of us...still a minority of course, but it is good to have someone else to grumble about the price of USA made guitars in England...and there is still no discernable difference despite the exchange rate change.

Cheers

They store it in Lucas refridgerators!

Brits never laugh at Lucas electronics jokes. It's 'cause they have to drink warm beer.

Paul

On behalf of the UK, I feel I have to reply on warm beer.

It is of course not true that we English drink warm beer. When we go to a Pub, we either drink chilled beer, Lager or when I drink a good English pint of Bitter, it is at Beer Cellar tempeature. This is the beer storage room below the bar. Good English Bitter is served only sometimes at room temperature but that is unusual now, unless you are really out in the wilds, it is normally at the cellar temperature, which is colder than ambient.

Having spent some time on training course in Springfield MA, (Agawam to be exact) I can tell you that the local MA " Sam Adams" beer is very similar to our Bitter, such as Adnams or Old Speckeled Hen.

There's someone who knows what he's talking about. The problem is it's getting increasingly difficult to find British "real" ale over here. It was the beginning of the end when they brought out "extra cold" Guinness a few years ago. It's getting easier to find good British style beer in the USA, except of course it's served far too cold. Kinda like drinking chilled red wine (as opposed to Chilean red wine) But then what do expect from a nation who invented the Banjo.

Hey, don't get started on the banjo. It was invented by our forefathers. And impressed all four of them.

...sigh...that from a denizen of that lonely Isle which created "Toad In The Hole", "Bubble 'n Squeak" and, of course, the inimitable "Haggis"!...

...but then again, I shouldn't talk, as I'm also a Campbell by blood and play the banjo...strike two! ;)

American beer is SHITE!

When I play gigs, it's either a hand-pulled Black&Tan (Bass&Guinness - F@&K "Yeungling"!)
or a Boddington's . . . .

If I'm Hot&Thirsty and need t'chug something (or there's tequila aboot), it'll be a Corona.

I used to drink Sam Adams occasionally, but the owner pissed me off on a "principal" issue a few years ago . . . so I boycott 'em . .
