I would like to hear comments from folks that have playing experience with the 6774 folklore.

Probably not useful info, but the sister model 6773 nylon strung one is very nice in my opinion. Indian blanket and all.

I've got a buddy who special ordered a lefty Folklore (added a gloss neck and sealed tuners), and thinks it's the best Ovation he's ever played.

Hi
I have one, about two years old, and I ordered it from the factory, via Al, (these are only sold special order, apparently.)

It was all that I hoped for when I received it, except the action was too low on treble strings, and even tho I play finger style with a light touch and no picks, I still had to fiddle with the action to get it right.

My only complaint is the usual complaint for piezo pickups in any guitar- I dont like the piezo "squack", but other than that, I would recommend this model to any finger style player.
(When I record, I use both a condenser mic and the internal pickup, and when the two are blended in a mixer, and finally come thru the speaker from a recording, no one has noticed the extraneous pickup noise.)

Hello Jeff,

I have had one of these for a few years now. I wandered into the local guitar shop and saw it hanging on the wall. Picked it up and the rest is history. Ovation necks are a little narrow for my fat fingers, which usually isn't a problem, but when I play blues and in watering holes that tend to be smoky and sweaty they will plump up like Oscar Meyer's in boiling water (my fingers that is). That is the beauty of the nice wide neck on the 6774. Lots of room to move around, and make chords. Sounds great acoustically, and even better plugged in. It has a couple small dings in the front, nothing major. It would probably be the last guitar to leave my house if I had to start letting them go. Hope you find one, and enjoy. I see you are in Seattle. If you would like to try one out come on over. I'm down in Milton, and am off Sunday and Monday.

Glenn :D

It's not clear from the Ovation website, but does anyone know if the 6773 vs. 6774 have different tops or different bracking due due to nylon vs. steel strings?

A good rule, which has been around forever,is "never put steel strings on a gut guitar."

Because most gut string guitars have weaker
(and different)bracing in the neck and the top, and many people, including myself, have ruined gut guitars with steel strings.

Having said that, it is also well known that Ovations are stronger than the average guitar, and maybe they could take the added strain. Unfortunatly , you wouldnt know you made a mistake untill the neck started to bow, or the top lifted up .
