I was looking for suggestions about how to get rid of the scratches (from strumming) on my top coat of finish. Does any one have any recommendations for a scratch/swirl removing product or technique?????
thanks, mike |

As to deeper scratches or finish cracks - I use supplies from Stewart-MacDonald (stewmac.com).
I have the foam polishing pad #3414 $13.95 which attaches to a drill - great for buffing tops, bridges, fretboards; Swirl Remover # 1204 $12.40; and Soft Touch Sanding Pads (2,400 - 12,000 grit). Finish is a thick catalyzed polyester and can be sanded (StewMac says 2,000 grit but lowest I use is 3,600) and then buffed. The finish crack can be filled with a water soluble glue or some will use CyA; any spillage of the CyA can be cleaned off with the CyA solvent without affecting the guitar's finish.
Takes out scratches, has removed shallow finish cracks, mitigated deeper cracks. I have totally removed finish cracks, others are not noticeable. |
