Anybody know what Ovation guitar Glen Campbell usually play at the end of the Good Time Hour TV Show I remember it being a nylon string guitar with red treble strings maybe an early 1624?

Glen played a number of Ovations on his show, and some of them, I suspect, were built specfically for him. I remember him and Jerry Reed playing matching classicals that had wood binding around the body. I don't think you'll be able to pin down one specific guitar.

As to the strings, it was whatever was being used back then. Remember, this was 35 years ago.

Glen played just about every model offered by the company at one time or another during the Goodtime Hour's run from 1969-1972. But generally, he played his signature model six and 12-strings, various Classicals and a Country Artist towards the end of the series run. He also played various Storm Series electrics, but the one most associated with him in those days was a natural finish Thunderhead. Hope this helps a little...

Although he did play most everything Ovation at one time or the other I think that Glen playing something bone stock was the exception not the rule. He played variatons of stock offerings, even if it was just initialed inlays or wood binding. He had some first-of/one-of guitars like the first Adamas, the first 1537 Elite and the first GC.
As for the nylon strings, he was still playing the Baldwin pickup equipped examples at least into the late '70's.

O'Mike, I know this hasn't helped at all and like Paul and Jeff pointed out, he ended the show with a number of different Ovations over the years. :)

Hi o'Mike,

The name of the closing song was "Pave Your Way Into Tomorrow". It was written By Billy Graham ( The skinny kid who played with Glen, Not The one You first think of with the same name.

. . . and that song (as was witnessed by anyone at the first OFC TourJam) is rendered rather masterfully by our own young(?) MasterWitko!!

Actually, Glen did a John Hartford tune during the Summer Brothers Smother Show called "What's The Difference" (I think that was the name). He continued this into the Goodtime Hour, but by about the end of the first season or the second, went to "Pave Your Way...".

Real name was Harford, but commonly known as Hartford. Closing some was "Natural To Be Gone". Then later switched to "Pave You Way". The one I played was "Natural To Be Gone".

Yes Cliff, THAT was the song... And I just learned a ukulel version of it just for YOU!

O'Mike - "Natural To Be Gone" was recorded by Hartford on his "Love Album" LP. It's also on an Aussie import greatest hits CD collection. Shoot me your email address and I'll send you an MP3 of it. I don't think Glen ever recorded it, but others here will know for sure.
