Location: SE Michigan | I am thinking of a new Ovation primarily for plugged in work. I do a lot of strumming, I have a percussive style, and I do some lead solos as well. I like to do 60's-70's-90's rock and acoustic stuff. Not really into finger style that much.
So what's the best sounding Ovation through an amp or PA? The 2005 Collectors? The LX Legend? 1778LX? The Al Di Meola? That new Adamas U681T-5?

Location: Warren,Pa. | If you leave them unplugged, each one has a different sound. IMHO, once you plug in they all sound more or less like a piezo pickup unless you play very gently. I'm installing a K&K Pure Western P/U in my 6778LX this week. Maybe not a perfect solution,but I think it's a great improvement. Sorry for this heretical view...now you guys can shoot me. John <>{ |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I play mostly unplugged, but I think the answer has more to do with what kind of flexibility you want, what pre-amp you like, what kind of processors you use, what kind of amp, etc. My own personal favorite is any guitar that has the Optima pre-amp and XLR output. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Dave is right on the money. The Op with XLR is the way to go. I also agree with John, that "most" of the "O"s sound very similar when plugged in.
If this is to be your main gigging guitar, I would almost lean towards the '05. Partly because 1) it is a great guitar plugged or unplugged, 2) the new contoured bowl is super comfortable, 3) the look is very refined and elegant without frills, 4) it is a damn good price for the quality! |

Location: Germantown, MD | There are sooooooooooooo many variables. What model of O? What model of amp? What size venue? What playing style? What types of music? What other instruments?
Best advice: Realize that "best" is subjective, choose hardware that you like, and keep a fresh battery in your case so you're covered if the preamp gets hungry. |

It's all just a matter of oppinion.I really have enjoyed using my op40 onmy 1858 12 string Mid bowl,and I have the opportunity to plug in and play in a club setting and outddoors. It shines everytime. The guitar..not my playing. :rolleyes: |
