Not sure how this "Hidden ID" thing works, but it looks like someone got a nice guitar. I'd bet my life he's an OFC member.

"Hidden ID" is the seller's choice at the time he sets up the auction. I presume that would be to keep people who know each other, like in the OFC, from refraining from bidding in deference to another, since no one knows who actually IS bidding on it.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Well anyway, somebody got a nice adamas. And it's a black one. I bet we know him. Dave

Interesting concept, keeping the bidder secret. I find that the less I can see the less I like something like this. Then again if it is for something really special most of that goes out the window.

I find this a little scary. On another site (remember I'm mainly a bass player) I read where someone is selling a bass (or guitar) on evilbay, and someone (not the seller) recognizes it as their's. When they can, they contact the buyers and warn them of the fraud. If IDs are secret, they cannot warn them. Just a thought.

it goes the other way also.
If you put up an ovation and people recognize the ID they may not want to bid against someone they know.
so keeping the id's private prevents bidding against someone you know and you bid only against a number.

If you really want something - bid for it regardless of who else is bidding.

What I run into is when I'm putting in a low bid (bottomfeeding) along with other OFC'ers. I will contact and ask if they are serious or trolling and how far. If its over my trip point I can bud out and not push their bid up!

Watching "The Trawler", who is more than likely an OFC Brother, he's a starter on many Ovations on Ebay.

I personally like watching the trawler, he?or she? seem to kick off the bidding on most of the O's that hit E-bay...(private sales anyway) and jumps in when they appear to be going for much lower than they should, maybe it's a stockholder or member of the corp. or family. Bill? ;)

nice way to keep the value, interest, and excitement in a great product right?

not for us so much but we do have to educate the masses about our babies don't we? we all know they are undervalued and underappreciated out there by a lot of uninformed people.

I think the contour bowl and the new lines and reissues will change that tho...

God Bless,

Glenn

I'm pretty sure that 'The Trawler' has a BOT that does automatic bidding for him (at least for the first bid).

The identity of The Trawler has been discussed before. Even if he is one of us, he prefers to keep his identity private. Usually his bids are quite low.

One of the primary reasons eBay developed the hidden bidder identity was due to the rash of offers a bidder would receive from others claiming to sell the same item. Vast fraud was involved, and hiding bidder id's has kept that part of it down. Now the frauds sell stuff on eBay directly.

Has anyone ever seen Alpep and Superman in the same room, at the same time?

I wish people wouldn't start bidding the moment something good comes up on eBay.
It would be wonderful if everyone could hold on till the last minutes and put in their bids and let the chips fall where they may.
( of course when I am the Seller I love prices to be driven up......)

I wish they didn't have Buy It Now or reserves. Or maybe one but not the other.

And, I haven't seen Alpep and Superman together, either. But, then again, I haven't seen Alpep and Madonna in the same room...do you think????? Nah...

;)
