Location: WV | Hi all. I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I have always wanted an Ovation and found a deal on ebay. The other night I bought a new w/o tags CC057 (black) for $125. The seller was relatively new and I hope the guitar is as described. (BTW-As 0f 5 minutes ago he still hasn't answered 3 emails concerning shipping details.) Anyway, I was looking around for a case and was wondering what you guys would recommend. I thought about the new Lightweight foam and ballistic nylon cases from TKL, Gator and SKB. Also looked at the Ovation case #8117 from either Music 123 or Musicians Friend. I don't really like gig bags. Might just as well wrap it in a bath towel. Also any advice on strings, etc. would be appreciated. I am partial to Elixir .12-.53's on my other acoustics. Anyway I'm anxious to get the guitar and will post a follow up when and "IF" it arrives.
Later,

Location: Midland, MI | Welcome to the board. Unless the guitar is completely unusable, I'd say $125 sounds like a deal...heck, I've spent more than that on a silly old ukulele (thanks again Dave!).
You can't go wrong with the appropriate O case, but get what you're comfortable with. I don't know enough about the different O case models, but I'm sure someone else here can fill you in on those.
Strings...ah, strings. If the search was working, you could spend a month of Sunday's reading the opinions on strings. I'm partial to Elixer 12s (or maybe 13s, I can never remember) on my Elite and pure nickle 10s on the electrics. I'm thinking of going to phosphor bronze on the Elite next time, though just for grins (although I thought I read somewhere that Elixir now has PB strings under the wrap).
Oh, and Hydrashoks are interesting. I had a box of black talon's for the .40 but they went with it when I sold it. Seems like they stopped selling the BTs shortly after I had picked up mine (and a friend picked up a box for his .45). Oh, well, long gone, either way. |

Location: WV | Hey Cruster,
Thanks for the input. I just hope the guy responds soon. I had a similar problem with the Tak 523 I bought. The guy was real helpful during the auction then vanished for 3 weeks leaving me very aggravated to say the least. I eventually got the guitar but the hassle was not necessary. I hope the seller of the CC57 wakes from his coma soon. ;)
You're right about the Black Talons. They now make a similar designed hollow point but for the life of me I can't think of what their called right now. I stick with the Hydra Shok .45 in my Novak built Para-Ordnance P-13. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Think I'll go send another threatning e mail to the CC57 seller.
Later,
Bob ;) |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Had to patch up an old 1712 that some fuzznut mixed up his hobbies on. Sure glad they didn't use dem nasty-critter HydraShoks on it. Good luck with trackin' down that seller. Had a CC57 (no zero) awhile back. Solid little player, with nice action- "Phoenix". Had to replace the top, which was an interesting project. Put an A-style, 5-rib bracing in it. Sweet. Sent it off to New York somewhere, as I recall. |

Location: WV | That guy doesn't know me too well. I'll spend more than the $125 to get on a plane, fly to Colorado and take the $125 out of his ass! Seriously though it just pisses me off to no end that people are that irresponsible. If you're gonna do buisness then at least consider watching your auctions and make contact promptly. I can already hear the excuses piling up. "I had a family emergency. y wife/pet/mother/son/brother/goldfish was sick and I couldn't get to my computer for a week to send a 2 minute email."
