Yes, they get up there. An original National uke will run $3-4000.

That is a heckuva nice looking uke! More than I'd spend on one, but that's very nice.

Hey, Woody, have you ever thought of building an instrument? I found a place with some nice 'kits' for building ukes in different sizes...soprano, tenor, etc. The wood they were showing looked great, nice figure, etc. I'm no woodworker, though...

I am basically lazy and relatively under tooled (careful self, remember who you are talking to!). Which means - the proper manufacture of acoustic instruments takes the right tools and a proper work area.

I feel OK about playing with some of the Ovation solidbodies because:

- I really want these models to play
- They were a little broken when I got them
- Ovation Craftsman have already done all of the hard work and design
- I really like these models and want to play with them on a budget

What makes this Uke so special is the availability of the woods and the craftsmanship that went into it. Forgive me but it still sounds like a Uke! But it looks so cool!

I have seen those kits and been tempted. Places like Stewmac and such aren't making a living selling the kits. What they are really selling is all those specialty tools and gotta-haves that go with them! We are sheep deep down.

What they sell is excitement and enthusiasm, much like this place.

Heck, that line describes about 80% of the people here, don't it? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!

Just kidding. Check out this new Hilo design in ukes. It looks vaguely familiar. ;)
