Location: Queens, NY | I know this has come up before (I'd do a search if I could), but I have a couple of questions on humidifiers:
1. Is a humidifier recommended for a laminated top (like a Celebrity)? I asked a sales rep in Sam Ash that question once and he said laminated tops don't need it. Is that the consensus?
2. For my FD14, I've been getting by with a Dampit humidifier. I'd like to finally invest in something a little better (humidifier plus sensor or hygrometer). Right now, I'm leaning towards either Planet Waves or John Pearse K-Saire system (see links below). Anyone familiar with these two? Any other recommendations?

Location: N W Ohio | I had a CC01-M for quite a while and never humidified it. No problems it was fine. My solid top O's and my Martins are humidified with the Planet Waves system you have listed. My house is very dry in the winter months. These have served me well. |

I have found laminated top guitars need a humidifier, but not as desperately as a solid top. I like the planet waves in soundhole unit.
As for the hygrometer, get one of the cheap $15 electronic units. The guts are all the same. Try the search function. If the search doesn't work, here's a test I found on the internet. Not exactly what I did, but close.

Do either of you attach the Dampit to your guitar using the clip? I usually attach mine to the edge of the center sound hole, but I'm concerned that area will start to show wear over time. That's why I'm thinking of getting a humidifier that doesn't actually touch the guitar.
Of course I could just drop the Dampit in the center sound hole, but then it's a pain trying to get it out again, and it would be next to impossible to do that with an Elite. |

Location: Vermont USA | On my Elite I tie a string around the dampit and hook one end of the string around the shoulder strap button and place the Dampit in one of the holes. And that's the ways it is Feb. 21, 2005
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
