Al's right, probably had no influence whatsoever.

Isn't it just disgusting to listen to the marketingeese flow off of Mr Hall's toungue? Just like any other programmed drone spewing forth the carefully selected adjectives to enhance and reinforce all the major features and benefits of the product. Such Bull sh*t!

Yes they are great guitars, no question there.

Well, sorry to admit it (I guess), but my "real" job is in product marketing for a 3B Eu european company. My job description is to "Spew forth carefully selected adjectives to enhance and reinforce all the major features and benefits of the product." That's what marketing IS. What do you expect Rick to say? "Our product rocks dude, and the competition is just crap. Anyone playing a wooden box is a total a-hole." ???

I have met Rick on three occasions and while I don't 100% agree with Kamans total marketing approach, I can tell you that Rick has a definate finger on the pulse of what's "good" about Ovation and takes a lot of input form this forum. I'm sure he was in the decision room when things such as new bowl design, new neck attachment, adamas re-issues, focus on acoustic sound, etc. were debated. All marketing guys (me included) get pulled in may opposing directions and for the most part the job is one of managing compromises. I think Rick does a banner job representing the interests of people like us OFC'ers given the constraints that I'm sure the Kaman suits put on him.

Just my 0.016 euros worth.

Lightfoot, you're a bit full of it in your attitude towards Rick Hall. Your response shows that you have a disdain for the corporate world and a lack of understanding of how it works.

I've only met Rick a few times, but the people I know inside Ovation have a high regard for him and what he's doing.

Please keep your snide (and uninformed) comments to yourself. They're not appreciated.

Try and be more assertive. Stop sitting on the fence with your replies.

Just out of curiousity, I noticed Lighfoot's occupation is "proctologist" (listed with a lower case "p") and his interests are "you know, the usual". So, my question is, what are the "usual" interests of a man who earns his living with his head inserted into other people's ______ (please fill the blank space with your favorite euphamism for rectum)?

I "dug" a little deeper so to speak and found that he had a porn site listed as his "homepage" looks like we have a troll.

Lightfoot is probably a disgruntled Ovation employe that applied for the same job as Rick's but was passed over due to his cynical attitude.

unfortunately we will get trolls from time to time. They either have a problem with Ovation guitars, or me or my business.

The best response for these attention seeking freaks is to IGNORE them BUT the membership rarely listens to me when I politely ask for some cooperation (read MOODY et al) so I can only remind you that if you see a post that is very negative and the person has a low amount of posts and/or they directly attack me just LET IT GO.

a certain x member of this board kept registering for numerous screen names. He has problems which I hope he gets addressed. It would make it a better world

He's been around/posted for a while (although not of late, that I can recall) . . . .

Probably woke up on the cynical side of the bed
(done it a couple of times myself) . . .

But slamming someone here (who HAS been pretty "good" to us) behind their back isn't too cool.

Posting a link to a porn site (deceivingly as a homepage) that can get people unwittingly in trouble (at work) is a bit tacky as well . .

This is strange. I am able to do IP lookups from my end of this website and at this Point I would like to ask Lightfoot to contact me via e mail because something is just not making sense here.

Looks like I started something when I looked at his profile. Sorry.

P.S. Al, with even more changes coming, you'll have to wait a while for my order. I was going to order a Custom Legend LX as soon as they started using the new contour bowl. Now, I need to see what other changes Rick Hall was talking about for 2006.

I think Al looked at the IP address and found that it was coming from his own computer!

Al = Lightfoot
FRG = Second
Willie Nelson = His own grandpa

I see a trend here ...

Well I did not expect to get this much of a reaction. Maybe I came across too strong, the written word can be stronger than the spoken sometimes. Let's try it this way; Rick, speak from your heart as a guitar player that we know you are rather than recycling that marketing babble they program into you as part of your day job.

Yes, it's still OK to like him.

The Aaron Tippen song is a very good one.

Yes I do have a distain for the corporate world but it is because I know exactally how it works. It is like the Hunter Thompson quote about Hubie Hump.

The home page is not a pornsite, it was left blank, must have been a rider from the computer I used last time.

OK, now back to playing Ovations.

Just let me say that you are welcome to post here but you have to remember that to many of our members Rick Hall is not just a corporate talking head, but a friend. That is probably why your post got such a reaction.

There is always room for improvment.

Rick Hall has struck me as a man of integrity and one who firmly believes in the company he works for along with the product line the company sells. It's just not marketing to Rick. For those of us who spent time with him during the factory tour and jam he spent a great deal of time answering questions and also spent time talking to individuals about where they were from.
Even if Rick didn't work for Ovation, He's be the same type of guy he is now. One who operates with the voice of reason and a great deal of integrity. Any one of us could pick up the phone and call him, or email and he would always take the time to talk.
Rick's job does involve marketing, But how he handles himself around customers and friends has nothing to do with marketing but is only a testament to what a truly nice guy he is.

Al's right. Rick is a friend, but there's more than that.

It's comments like "Yes I do have a distain for the corporate world but it is because I know exactally how it works."

I would hope that your knowledge is better than your spelling, but I doubt it. For all it's problems and pitfalls, corporate America works pretty well.

I'd like to add that while I've never actually met Rick Hall, I've seen his show on TV. Mostly re-runs, but they're still good. I thought he was pretty witty, with some of those cracks. I mean, what do you say to some guy that's dressed up like a rooster and wants to trade $1000US for whatever is behind Door Number One?

Whatever the point... we are all chatting about the article. Some probably went to the article only after reading some of the drivel. I've know Rick for a few years. He is outstanding at what he does, being able to balance what he "can" say while at the same time saying what needs to be said.

Actually I thought it was a great interview aside from the spelling and grammer thats worse than mine.
