One of the recent posts concerning finger/thumb pain had a comment about playing thicker, wider necks. It might have been Bill. Can you tell much about the neck profile just from nut width? How does the new 05 Collector compare with previous necks?

I don't know about Os but on most guitars there is no relation between nut/board width.

O5 Collectors - why is the neck gloss?

The gloss is because Ovation got away from gloss necks in the late 80's and a lot of people (myself included) prefer Ovation's gloss necks to the satin finish necks.

My son's '92 Legend is gloss and has a more pronounced "V" shape than my '96 satin necked C.L. The older one seems a little smaller as well.Any idea what they used for the '05 profile?

Paul

Thanks for the info but, frankly my dear, you'll never get me up in one those things.

Nut width and profile aren't related.

We went to satin finish and oil finishes because they were trendy at the time and were well recieved. They've gone back to gloss since it was time to do so. Neck shapes also reflect the market's current thinking, whatever that is. Over the years they've been many shapes, as have all manufacturers.

Sounds like it's back to "play it" and see if you like the way it feels. Thanks for the input.
