As March rolls out...and I watch my #47 fund grow in lil biddy increments...

I began to wonder who the lucky few are that have heard the #47 and the even fewer who have had a chance to hear a #47 played side by side, to say, a 1537?

If there are such creatures roaming this site, I would really appreciate your impressions, especially those comparing the two guitars.

I have only played a couple of 1537 and as nice as they are, there is really no comparison to the #47. I was literally blown away after only a single strum on the #47. The entire guitar body vibrates like an orchestral hall. The treble notes are even and sweet.

I think Dave and maybe Cliff have played both....and of course maybe W-2 can chime in.

I played #47, but not side by side with a 1537. But my guess would be "no contest". As nice as the 1537 is, it's not even the best sounding wood topped Ovation in my opinion - that would be the FD14. I did play #47 next to the 12 fret slothead proto. Different, but I would not say one was necessarily better than the other. Dave

They are totally different animals and I don't think you can compare them. While a 1537 is a deep and full guitar, the original slots (I've played #47 and Cliff's #50 something) bring new meaning to the term "deep". The whole guitar vibrates when you play it.

I've got a 1537 and will never sell it. It gets played every day. But I'm also planning on getting an OFC guitar (an Adamas slothead recreation of #47 with some tweaks). When I spend money on a guitar, it needs to be something different from what I already have. And the OFC'er is way different.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not looking for a better or worse comparasion (though I guess it would be easy to go there...) More a baseline as to what the "#47" sounds like as described in comparasion to a guitar whose sound I know very well.

I want the "47" because it is a pure acoustic... and that in my house would be different from the other O's/A's.

I fully agree. Although not side by side, as everyone said, the difference is so drastic that side-by-side is just showing the obvious that they are completely different guitars.
