Has anybody rigged an acoustic setup straight through a mixer to a pair of good quality active montitors?

I was thinking I could put a tube (pre)amp in line as well to round and plump the sound.

I am looking to create a great acoustic sound in my home. Extreme volume is not a concern.

I have run my acoustics through my Event TR8 monitors. I plug into a BBE 1000X DI that goes into a MOTO828, into a Yamaha mixer and then on to the Events.

It can get fairly loud (not gigging loud of course) but sounds very good. Very natural sounding acoustic tones at an increased volume.

YES

WORKS NICELY

UNPLUG IT and PLAY.

Miles,
I respect a man of few words. Sounds like I am on the right track.

Stephen,
In your set-up, are you playing through your Mac? I am a Mac user and I thought MOTO828 was a digital audio interface for Mac recording.

I use a Pentium 4 PC with the MOTU connected through a firewire. You are correct, it is a 24/96 audio interface for either MAC or PC.

I primarly use Cubase SX3 and Reason 2.5 for recording purposes.

I use a TC Helicon Voiceworks to make my singing bearable!

Stephen,
You are a coupla steps ahead of my imagined set-up... The only gadget that would make my singing bearable is Van Morrison.

I am considering purchasing the Event TR8s, seems like they've got a great rep for lower cost monitor...Are you happy with them?

Jeff,
I think for the price they are terrific little monitors. Most of the reviews I see are for the TR5's which didn't really float my boat when I heard them.....the 8's just had a better low end and all around natural sound. So many of the monitors I listened to had exaggerated bass or shrill highs....just not a natural, neutral sound.

One thing that improved the TR8's overall projection and tone was setting them up on stands and then resting them on top of Auralex monitor pads. I think one of the pics in my gallery shows them on the stands with the pads.

If you want something a little better at twice the price, check out the Genelec 1029A's. They cost more than I wanted to spend but sounded really nice.
