I would have changed out Martin SPs two or three times by now. Though the lixers are pricey, I would have spent as much on three sets of other strings.
Really good product. |

I like them on some guitars more than others... |

Location: Hyattsville, MD | I keep D'addario EXPs on my Ovation and just started putting Elixir Polywebs on my Strat. I tried to go back to the Martin strings, but I kill them so fast that it seems like I end up spending more time re-striging than playing. Coated strings are one of the few things in this world that I think are actually worth the extra cash. Absolutely. Never go back. |

Location: closely held secret | Same here. Picked up 10 sets each of acoustic and electric Elixirs for a great price at the CMS 2 years ago.
Time for a refill, guess I'll have to go again this year. :D |

What did they cost, if you don't mind? |

Location: closely held secret | I got them for $5 a set, but that was a special at CMS. I've seen them on sale occasionally at GC for $10. |

Location: closely held secret | Well, like I said, it was a special. A short-lived one. I didn't buy a case, but I bought a 10-set box of each.
Lasted me 2 years, and I must have given 4 of each away to friends...
At last years CMS they were $10/set. Still a pretty good price compared to retail. Plan to pick up a few in November. |

They are $12.00 per set. I haven't used Elixir's on any of my electrics yet but I have them on all of my acoustics these days. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | I'm a true fan of the Elixir strings. I usually use custom light (.011 - .052) Nanowebs. I find that this gauge works great. Since they are usually not stocked by the local GC, I've been getting them online. I have three 6 string O's and so I buy 3 sets at a time. I recently bought them from this ad on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41433&item=7...
The seller was reliable with good communication and I got the strings relatively fast. $32 for 3 sets delivered is a very good price.
I find that Elixirs maintain about 80% of their original tone over the life of the strings and that they are good for a long time. |

Then again, so did the polywebs. I think I'll go back to the polywebs next time...which is about three months out. ;) Great strings. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | The unwound strings aren't coated, so to get maximum life, I replace the unwound ones with D'Addario singles as they lose their tone. The coated wound strings should be good for a few months, in my experience.
I've never cared for the Polywebs, but the Nanowebs seem good.

This is because I have found that with the Warriors midi interface run into a Roland VG-88 or GR-33, for whatever reason, the coated strings seem to track much better than the regulars.
and since it is a synth sound, the original flavor of the string is somewhat lost anyhow. |

Location: SoCal | As I've posted before, poly's and nano's both have their place on my guitars. The poly's with the thicker coatings go on my GC DB which is a very bright guitar to begin with. They tend to "calm" it down a bit. The nano's with the thinner coatings and brighter sound go on the 1537 which needs a little brightening up.
It should be mentioned that there have been whole threads on this subject in the past. If you reveiw them, you'll see that there are strong feelings pro and con on coated strings. |

| I'm pretty much exclusively using elixir's and on my Ovations they stay in tune and seem to last forever. Thought they felt a little greasy when I first started using em but used to it now.
have nanos on the Alvarez CC1(doesn't stay in tune as well but I tend to trem out a lot on that one) the wilkinson trem and nut are pretty decent tho.
I have flatwound chromes on the other guitar and between that and the new elx changes it has a very Creedence kind of tone. plus the Chromes look pretty cool too on the ebony epi.
God Bless, |
