Greetings all, am trying to determine what an Ovation model 1281 Preacher in mint condition with hard carry case is worth, I have a friend who wants me to list it on ebay for him, and I have absolutely no idea what one is worth. I did however do the research to find out they went for $460.00 new back in the early 70's. anybody got any ideas?

There's been a alot of activity lately with Preachers. Youy can use the search functions at the top of the page to see what's been going on...don't forget to search the "for sale" section as well as general posts.

Also, searching completed auctions on ebay will offer some insight. Plenty of folks here will also have opinions too.

Welcome the board.

Jeff's suggestion is good. Search ebay and OFC list and you will get some goot ideas. The new price is probably in the ballpark.

Q:What is my Ovation guitar worth?
A: This is probably the most frequently asked question, and the hardest to answer. There are so many factors involved in pricing a musical instrument. Is is collectable? Is it rare? Is it popular? It is highly recommended that you check some online resources such as www.ebay.com. To find out how much an instrument, similar to yours, has recently sold for. Check "completed items." Other online resources include www.gbase.com and www.guitarlist.com. Your best bet, unless you need it appraised for insurance or other reasons, is to try and ask yourself "How much is this instrument worth to me?" More value related resources include the "The Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars" and "The Blue Book of Electric Guitars" both edited by S. P. Fjestad and available in paperback by Gurney Brown. There is also the software version "The S-Book of Guitars" by S. P. Fjestad. Click here to connect to Blue Book Publishing, Inc.
