I would like to ask if any members who reside in the continental USA have purchased a guitar from a member who resides in Canada. As you all may or many not know, I am purchasing dolbyscat's custom elite and am trying to find out information so we can agree on the payment details. I have sent and received hotwheel cars to and from canada without any taxes or fees applied and was wondering if a guitar came under the same rules and regs.

Also, What would be the best way to make payment so that dolbyscat can deposit the payment and ship the guitar?

Thanks for helping me step through this process!!

I think that the custom fees are based on both category and value. The hotwheel cars probably did not have enough value to worry about.

When I bought a Roland Space Echo from Canada for $400, I received an invoice from customs about 3-4 weeks after I received the unit.

I called them up to make sure it was the real deal and not a scam and they informed me that it was a real invoice and that I would be wise to pay it.

Seems like it was about 8% or $34 but it has been a couple years.

Best thing to do, is pay for the guitar through Paypal. MO or whatever....have DolbyCat honestly fill out the proper paperwork from his end....and then wait for an invoice.

There shouldn't be any customs duty on it, as it was made in the USA. But you will probably have to pay a fee for the broker to get it through customs if it comes via UPS.

Two basic ways to pay are either by PayPal or by an International Money Order which can be purchased from the post office. (It must specifically be the international m.o.)
