| ADAMAS!!!
collector's edition is not even top of the line ovation. top of the line wood-top models are custom elite & custom legend.
top of the line is adamas ... so the choice is no brainer |

Have you seen a 2005 Collectors? The top is Engleman spruce. Very high quality, very good wood. The other LX's have sitka spruce tops. Everything about the 2005 is first class. It also has the contoured bowl. Very unique.
Now, having said that, I have no idea which guitar Guiguite should buy. They are two different animals. I think that the Adamas may hold it's value better, and there are probably fewer of them made. But they are different sounding, different playing guitars. One also costs about twice the price of the other. |

Wooden tops are not inferior to Adamas tops, just as good, only different.
Plus many other different features on these 2 models.
Price, looks, etc. Very personal choices.
Get both. ;)

The 12 fretter is one hell of a guitar. Not as pretty as the 05, but it is really amazing in the sound and playability dept. |

Location: boulder | Hi,
being lucky enough to have both 2005 collectors and u681, I'll say this. either way you will be happy with money spent. they both are musicians instruments. I mean they look nice and have some bling (ok I stared at the u681 last night after it was to late to make any sounds), but the tones, the feel, the 'it' factor will be appreciated by deadicated players.(I don't consider myself a great, or even good player FWIW, I like to write songs and need sounds)
The 2005 is easy to play and overall an excellent guitar. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. It is an all around star.
The u681 has 12 frets to play with, something to keep in mind. I thought the sound was on the bright side at first. Lately I hear the bass just thunder. I keep smiling the more I play it. Maybe it is a more specialized star.
also does owning one of a 100 mean more to you then owning one of ???, I'll guess 800-1000 for 2005 es?
Tough choice, but if forced to choose, I'd buy the adamas now while you can. buy the ovation later when you can.
As country artist says, very personal choice, but I think either one will keep making you happy for a long time.
hope to share more when I have computer time, peace mike |

| cliff, i know 2005 uses englemann spruce top. good direction for ovation!! the new top & the new abalone rosette make it look almost exactly like my taylor 814. the only thing i don't like about 2005 is the rosette: direct copy from taylor. i think the older abalone rosette looks better.
ok, back to the original question - both are great guitars. if i have to pick one & money is no object, i would definitely pick the new adamas u681t-5. |

I simply pointed out that the 2005 collectors was a better guitar and deserved more credit than you appeared to be giving it. And I may have misconstrued your posts on that. |

That said, the only GREAT sounding Collector's edition I've heard was the '87. Not that the others were bad, but that was just a great guitar. So I guess that's a vote for the Adamas. |

I feel strongly both ways!!! They are both equally fantastic. They are just fron different worlds. No way would you be disappointed with either choice. Now how is that for a deciding vote? |

The '05 will be available sometime throughout the year and maybe even available at some place next year.
The u681t is limited to 100. We know of 10-12 just within the OFC that have been sold. That is 10+% of the total available.
If money is not the issue, then grab the u681t, if only because of it's limited availability. The '05 will be available much longer.
Then in 3,6, or 9 months down the road, grab the '05. |

Based on AFG and Fugot's input, I just placed an order with Al for a 2005 collector's. I wanted a center soundhole, had to at least a mid bowl, that was pretty "special". Custom Legend, I was thinking, but want LX. They are pricey! Al gave me a great deal on an FRG 2005 Collectors. Soon I'll be able to comment on which to buy, the U681T or the 2005. Can't wait. THey should be a nice complement to each other, along with my 6718 Standard Elite, which is on its way. I am done buying guitars (for now). I will be selling some. |
