I was reading a post below about Beatles guitars, and seemed to recall seeing John Lennon playing an ovation somewhere.
I found this pic, and was wondering if anyone knew the model?

That's the look right there, my dear Bones. ;)

It is a Legend Ltd.,

...discontinued of course.

It is indeed a Legend Ltd. They do occasionally show upon ebay, so if you want one, keep a look out.

So does anyone know what happened to Lennon's Legend Ltd?

And, obviously, this was acoustic only, not a/e...

Yoko and Sean must still have it with all the others.

The Legend Ltd. was available only as an acoustic electric model. You can see the knobs on the photo.

Someone said, if I recall, that there's a picture of George Harrison playing an Ovation. Anyone have it?

What's the difference between a Legend and a Legend Ltd? Also, looks like stonebobbo's pictures are Lennon with a different Legend.

Ther Photo that began this post is used For The John Lennon acoustic Release. They have also re-released the Rock N Roll release Which is KILLER!! I don't know how many of you heard the original release but it's John doing all those old Rock N roll tunes like he did in the old days with the beatles. Stand By me is on it as well as Be Bop a lula! Gret stuff!

Excerpt from 1982 Ovation Catalog:

Model 1651

With the overwhelming success of the Legend and Custom legend guitars, Ovation saw a need to produce a special edition instrument. Combining some of the most sought after features of the Custom legend with the proven Legend design, the Ovation Legend Ltd. was born.

An amazing guitar in both beauty and clarity of sound, its sitka spruce top and A-bracing pattern allow the Legend Ltd. to realize its full sound-making potential. A warm and uniquely handsome nutmeg brown finish created especially for this model accents its many oustanding features. Available only as an acoustic electric model, the Legend Ltd. incorporates a stereo FET preamp with a tone control for maximum tonal variance. A guitar unmistakably deserving of the name Ovation.

Wonderful looking and sounding guitar.

Who has one for sale? ;)

This one's pretty cool too.

Wonder what he was playing back in the Quarrymen days?

You've managed to put me right off women, the Beatles, the English capitol, meat and all things cuban, in one fell swoop.

Been lurking in the background for months (years?) but I had to chime in on this one. Two months ago I ordered a Legend LX from Ovation's custom shop - we were trying to create a modern version of this guitar. Dark nutmeg finish, walnut peg head, old style (plastic gluye on) rosette, etc. Now if only it would arrive!

Jersey City - God's country as we call it here!

Actually I almost chimed in when I saw the thread on selling everything and moving to the Carribbean. I DID sell my house a few years ago, moved on a boat and well....someday!
Call me a Jimmy Buffet/Eric Stone wannabe.

Been playing Ovations since 1978 (not playing particularly well of course). Got away from them a few years back but my Larrivee didn't like life on a boat and parted (quite literally). It was back to Ovations and a custom balladeer for me. BTW - they seem quite impervious to salt water. Please, no jokes on the paddle use.

Great site.

John (Penceler is the boat's name!)

Jersey City - God's country.
- and He can HAVE it!! (just kidding)

Jersey City's got a nice marina.
There's a sailing school over there that I've been meaning to check into for some lessons (ONE of these days . . .)

I work one town over (Kearny).
Maybe we could "do lunch" sometime . . .

Anyways, WELCOME!!
