Location: Midland, MI | Sally fell asleep with the TV on CMT for some reason. Well, it was on CMT for some reason, I assume she fell asleep because she was tired. ;)
Anyway, they introduce this Gretchen Wilson (never heard of her) and out she comes with the opening riff to 'Crazy on You.' There's Nancy Wilson jumping around doing the 12-string thing, but then as Gretchen walks off screen, Ann walks onscreen, taking over the lyrics. No contest, if you ask me, Ann Wilson can sing circles around this new woman. Still has the voice. And at the end of the song, Nancy *gave* her guitar to Gretchen. Very cool and I don't even dig country. ;) |

Location: New Orleans | It WAS very cool! I'm a serious lifelong Heart fan and I watched the CMT Awards just to see what kind of surprise Ann and Nancy had in store for us. Nancy had posted on their website that they were going to be on the CMT Awards but she left us in suspense by not saying what they were going to be there for. I justa bout jumped outta my seat when they rocked the house with the phenomenal Crazy On You! It really was a great performance and Gretchen Wilson must be totally beside herself not only because she was able to perform with her favorite Women Of Rock but also by suddenly becoming the owner of Nancys Takamini!

I am generally not a country fan, but recently I've really gotten into Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson. I don't know what possessed me to buy their cds, both on a whim, but I like 'em, and a lot. I've bought 3 or 4 more of Keith's cds too. He has some great writing, he's an impressive guitar player, and both write some good lyrics. I don't find their singing or style quite as "twangy" as some other country music.

. . . I'd venture to say that there's probably a (ahem) BIT of a gap in the age ranges . . .
(Either that or Mother Wilson's been trawlin' the trailer parks . . . ) |

I don't have CMT....Nancy doin' the "12-string thing"????? I believe the only 12-strings I've seen them play have been Ovations! Ann has one, Nancy has one. If you look through the pictures on the Heart website, you can see Nancy's in the row with her other instruments where she works. I believe it is a Legend.

Location: Midland, MI | Maybe it wasn't a 12-string, but it sure looked like it had a lot of tuner buttons on it...and doesn't she play 12-string on 'Crazy on you?' I could be, and likely am, wrong.
Then again, I also subscribe to the belief that current pop-country is nothing more than bad 80s rock with slide guitar and mandolin thrown in and big hair thrown out. :D |
