Has anyone tried adding XLR to their LX?
I'm considering doing this, waiting to hear back from CT. on a price for the internal cable and jack.
Also, does anyone have the pinouts for the XLR activation cable and/or the 1/4" dummy plug?

I recently bought the same guitar as you, and I called Kim to ask about this. He said the can has to be changed, new jack assembly, other stuff I've forgotten. He said the factory would make the change for $100. I may leave it with him when I go on the tour in June. I also bought GOLD Pings from him...I like them a lot better than the chrome tuners. I wonder if I have an upgraded OP-PRO can. Mine has a 4-pin jack on it, clearly marked 'XLR'.

Still love the 6778LX? Every time I play mine, it just makes me smile! :)

So help me understand the $100 need for the XLR that makes it that much better than going through a good DI to get into the mixer. I know that I'm ignorant here, but I don't understand why.

Probably just a personal preferance. With the XLR you save on Battery Power by using the Phantom Power on the PA . But, as has been pointed out in other Posts, You still need the Battery for your Tuner function. so i guess it's back to personal preferance.

1 - I don't always have my DI handy when I need one.
2 - When I DO have mine, someone else forgets theirs, and their instrument sounds worse than mine going direct.
3 - Saves on the battery.
4 - Tuning isn't that big an issue. I only use the tuner when I can't hear. (and why did they make the preamp to run on phantom, and not the tuner???) Besides, Real Men don't use tuners.
5 - I wasn't planning to spend $100 on it. All I wanted to know was if anyone had done it. I saw an empty jack on the preamp can and figured it just required the right cable from the Mothership and a hole for the XLR. Holes I can do, holes I'm real good at. Cables I can build. It's really just that little proprietary plug I'm after.

And yes, Robbie - I still love it. I keep it in a place where it's really hard to walk past it and not pull it off the wall and play it a minute or two. :D

For some reason, I burn up XLR cables when I use them on my CL. I think I've gone thru 3 so I went back to the 1/4" cord and a DI. If I remember right, someone else reported the same thing a while ago.

AT the risk of establishing, beyond question, my naivete...

what's a 'DI'

I'm guessing from context that it is an interface of some sort for 1/4" phone jack to sound board or mixer panel. Is there more to it than that? Are there considerations to think about when acquiring one? What brands/models are good choices?

Thanks in advance...

'Direct Injection' box.
"A DI box converts an unbalanced, line- or instrument-level, high-impedance signal from an electric or electronic musical instrument to a balanced, microphone-level, low-impedance signal that can be connected directly to a microphone input on a mixer or mic preamp. The output from a DI box can be sent over long cables with much better noise rejection than is possible with a high-impedance, unbalanced signal from a guitar or synth." Scott Wilkinson

There are 'Active' and 'Passive' DI boxes. Passive uses transformers for impedance matching - active uses electronics. Active DI boxes may also incorporate things like speaker cab models.

And some of the cheaper ones work well as doorstops on breezy days.

To answer the question about the gold pings...I got the ones with gold buttons for $40. The ones with pearloid buttons were $80.

On that short term memory thing - my father in law says the absolute worst is when you find yourself on the middle of a flight of stairs and can't remember if you're going up or coming down. On the flip side, he thinks he's got a new woman every night too.

By "burned up" I just mean shorted out or broken wires.

I'm confused, Bill... (not an unusual state for me, btw)

How can physical damage to an XLR cable possibly be attributed to your guitar? (Unless your XLR jack is located near the tail strap button, and you often stand it up on the floor...? in which case I don't think I would blame the guitar...)

Not sure. It might be the angle that the cord makes when it leaves the connector but I usually put it thru my strap just like I do the 1/4". Like I said b4, I'm not the only one that has commented on it. Cliff might be right too, the cords our church group bought are not the best available so that might have something to do with it.

Maybe using one of these would help.
