Location: south east Michigan | Serial #1358 arrives at the factory today. I've given much thought about having electronics installed. It's in there for a neck reset and some fretwork. Right now I'm 98% sure I'm going to leave it original. Mr. Keller suggested the the thinline pick-up and air volume taken up by the pre-amp can change the acoustic sound although I might very well not be able to tell.
If I ever decide to play out with it, I can just mic it.
I gave it a workout before sending it away. That thing is a cannon! |

Location: SoCal | The old Balladeers are remarkably good guitars for being at the bottom of the Ovation food chain in the early 1970's. 5 piece neck, X bracing, etc., makes for a great sounding guitar. My 1972 doesn't sound quite as smooth when strummed hard as my 1968 Deluxe Balladeer, but it's got a great sound when fingerpicked. Much better than my 1978 Legend (with it's VT bracing).
I bought mine on the bay for $300. A total bargin. |

Location: south east Michigan | Paul...I don't know what bracing I have. If you attend the tour you can give it a try. It should be done by then. I'm just going to pick it up rather than risk shipping a newly fixed up guitar. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Keep in mind that back then the bottom of the food chain was not what it is today, it was much better. It was sposed to be the workhorse model, all professional features with no extra frills. The parallel to be drawn is to the D-28. Today's bottom of the food chain is a beginners guitar from some foreign place. The old Balladeers are now just about middle of the line-up. |

Location: Ohio | so where is my fd-14?(in reference to the "food chain")...I understand it is a sister of the balladeer...don't know anything about bracing, but having never played the guitar and having nobody to point me in the right direction, I purchased my guitar after looking at it for about 18 months(I couldn't find it on the ovation website and I couldn't find it at any insturment site)...it looked good, it sounded good...the reason it took me so long was that it had to be returned to the "mothership" because the bridge popped off...can't really say why, but it seems fine now... |

It's a piece of crap. Look at my "Opics", Stephen T hated it so much he just gave me his. Tell you what, I'll give you 100 bucks for yours and you can it put toward something really worth having. |

| Canada? Ohio is in Canada?
I see where the "Adventure" in Adventure Consulting comes from. You just send 'em off with a bunch of your directions.
When you buy your ticket to the UK, remember to ask for England, Alaska. |

Location: Earth·SolarSystem·LocalInterstellarCloud·Local Bub | For those of you, and I won't mention names, who failed to catch the "eh" reference in Novice's quote, may I now bring it to your attention. And further, we egotistical type americans, like to think of our neighbors to the North as just a bit naive.
...and who says a Canadian can't live in Ohio, anyway? I'm sure some come over for the gun ownership thing. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | zchord, $350 is a good deal for this if it truly has no issues. I paid $350 last year for a 1978 1617, which turned out to be an "1117".....the pickup doesn't work!!!!! But the top is solid, the neck is straight, and the action is good. Despite having the VT-bracing, it still sounds pretty good.
Anyway, your 1117 looks good....I was eyeing the auction myself, it is a good match for my 1982-vintage 1118 Glen Campbell 12-string.
