For those following the saga of the woman who claimed she bit into a finger eating a bowl of chili at Wendy's, this just in - she has now been arrested and jailed; charged with grand larceny.

"...nobody knows...the troubles I've seen..."

Evidently she has had several claims against large corporations. I think she needs a sign. You can't keep running the same scam and not think they'll catch on, DUH!!!

Is it customary and required to leave a tip at a fast food place?

The finger nail was shaped and painted, so most likely female - or from Arizona in the last column I read..

I read that it was from a dead aunt and the authorities were deciding if to exume the body.

I was talking to a consultant today about this issue. A good friend of his had pointed out several really important things:!) Wendy's chili is made "onsite" from the hamburgers that were not sold; 2) the machine is very well sealed up so that it is next to impossible to put a finger in; and 3) the finger must have been added after the grinder (else it would have been ground up, too).

Sad in a number of ways. !) Wendy's sales are off for no real reason; 2) lady casts Hispanics in a bad light (my friend is from Mexico).

WILMINGTON, N.C. - A man who ordered a pint of frozen chocolate custard in a dessert shop got a nasty surprise inside — a piece of severed finger lost by an employee in an accident.

Unlike a recent incident at a Wendy's restaurant in California, no questions of truth have been raised about the finger found in a package from Kohl's Frozen Custard.

State officials went to the shop Monday, and the owner confirmed one of his employees lost part of a finger in an accident with a food-processing machine.

Wilmington television station WWAY reported that Clarence Stowers found the finger in custard he purchased Sunday night.

Stowers, who did not immediately return calls Monday from The Associated Press, told the station: "I thought it was candy because they put candy in your ice cream ... to make it a treat. So I said, 'OK, well, I'll just put it in my mouth and get the ice cream off of it and see what it is.'"

Stowers said he spit the object out, but still couldn't identify it. So he went to his kitchen, rinsed it off with water — and "just started screaming."

Stowers said he planned to contact a lawyer.

Shop owner Craig Thomas said the employee who lost the finger had dropped a bucket while working with a machine that dispenses the custard. He tried to catch the bucket when the accident occurred.

Thomas told WWAY that several employees tried to help the injured worker, and that a drive-thru window attendant apparently scooped custard from the bucket into a pint before being told what had happened.

Joe Reardon of the state Agriculture Department's food and drug division said state officials closed the shop while the food-processing equipment involved was cleaned and sanitized.

In March, a Las Vegas woman claimed she bit down on a 1 1/2 inch-long finger fragment while dining with her family at a Wendy's restaurant in San Jose, Calif.

Investigators have since called her claim a hoax and charged her last month with attempted grand theft related to millions in dollars of financial losses Wendy's has suffered since news of her claim broke.

Isn't it strange that something liek this happens after the wendy's incident only this one turns out to be real. It's all over the news channels and all over the News papers too. Wilmington is a little more than an hour from where I live.

And you heard about the guys around Boston who "claimed" they found burried treasure of old bills worth over $100K? The police only got interested when during all the publicity the story started changing. If they kept their mouths shut they'd have gotten away with it!

". . Find a Finger . . . and WIN!!! a Lawsuit! . ."

(hmmmm . . . where IS my copy of Shakespeare's "Henry VI", anyway? . . .)

Carefull Cliff,
You might give some lawyers an idea about a great new approach to advertising. They won't be just ambulance chasers, they'll be finger chasers.

Fingers! Fingers! I love ya' Fingers!
You're only a lawsuit away!

If you're going to do something like this, why not use a rat limb, or a mouse?, what's wrong with these people? They're sick!

I guess finding a rat part in your food is just too common place.

Well there's rat cake ... rat sorbet... rat pudding... or strawberry tart.
Man: Strawberry tart?!
Woman: Well it's got some rat in it.
Man: How much?
Woman: Three, rather a lot really.
Man: ... well, I'll have a slice without so much rat in it.

LOL! What a classically British thing to say...
"I've seen snakes on TV before but never in a box of cereal"

Very mysterious. What would a corn snake be doing in a box of Golden Puffs!!!! Golden Puffs are wheat, not corn! Perhaps he ate the wheat snake originally shipped in the box...

As a lawyer who has defended a few similar claims, I take no offense to Steve's ambulance chasing comment, but note that some of us are on the other side. We've defended mouse claims, spider claims, bone claims, blood claims and probably a bunch of others. I have trouble believing that the manufacturer knew that an employee lost part of a finger and went ahead and sent the product out. These claims just make us all pay more for food and insurance.
