as a noob to the world of electric ovations, and electric guitars.... what are all the different switches and positions of same for and what do they do to change the various tones of the guitar and how the pickups interact?

specifically on a preacher deluxe but also a viper.

Thanks in advance!!!

Viper is simple. Switch selects the pickups, neck, both, bridge. One vol, one Tone.

I'll leave the Preacher Deluxe to somone who has the info off the top of their head. I know it's similar to the Breadwinner, one switch is a notch filter, the other is neck, bridge, both (note odd order) and then a VOl and a Tone.

Monday will bring a Preacher Deluxe to my doorstep. It will have lots of dials and switches that I will endevour to identify, repair and understand.

My goal is to fix it, have fun with it and then move it on to someone that really can play a solidbody.

Brudev has a Preacher Manual in his gallery!

Glen,
That is very possible. I want to get a hold of mine and make some templates. When you say "natural" what wood, tone and texture do you mean?

I am scrounging the web for some Koa veneer. Now that is some interesting wood Bruddah!

actually thinking of going light/blonde on the preacher deluxe and as a sibling shrieker going with ebony/dark on the viper... kind of a yin/yang, magic and mayhem kind of thing with me.. tattoo on my picking forearm is a wizard(crystal ball in hand) and on my neck forearm is a reaper and scythe...

magic and mayhem... dark and light... think I got the T-shirt a few years ago... have to go look.

God Bless,

Glenn

The word for the day is "Homonym" (Haw-mo-nim)which are words that sound the same but have different meanings.

Please try to use the word of the day in conversations and your documents.

Example: Those chile peppers passed without homonym much but they could have rectum in the end!

I went on a camping trip where various couples tried leaping over the campfire without suffering serious burns.

I landed in the fire in a sitting position when it came my turn, my girlfriend used the word quite properly twice when she said " Would you believe, I am, HAW haw-mo-nim BULL than you, looks like you won't be be jumping this homonym fo tonight!!"

Twice

Thanks Jérôme [Smile],

I just got off the phone with Jon B. at the mothership and he has agreed to send me a new set of knobs at about 1980 prices. ;) thanks Jon!! you and Kim K. and everyone I've dealt with there and here are awesome!!!

The 1283 is really, really nice. some rash here and there but I think I will be able to buff and fill everything pretty nicely. the black acrylic is pretty thick. the switch issues are starting to fade(no pun) and the various tones this thing produces make it a blast to play. gonna go outside with it and take some pics now with the knobs off the viper(they are the same according to jon).

will have them posted b4 I go to work

God Bless,

Glenn

Hey Ab,

it's amazing what you can do with an arc-welder and old garden tools... That is a spike-beaked, spade tailed garden grouse.

I will contact Tony Calman and see if he has ever located the trc.... said one mailed out but, never rec'vd.

Glenn

Glen,

Is it the tall TRC or the shorter TRC?

If you need a Pickguard done in veneer and matching TRC I will need a tracing of the P/G (holes and all) and your color/tone preferences.
I am thinking dark Walnut or perhaps some Zebra wood if you want to walk on the wild side! The Preache Deluxe has a different PG so Ineed a template.

I can send you a black TRC in the interim.

actually abendicum has the gc12 now.. is his alternative tuned guitar... the trc from tony was in transit to me prior to the sale to AB and was just gonna send it on to him... has a black trc.. Ab wanted to get the signature model as someone had changed it off the guitar prior to my receiving it.

Abendicum? would you like a custom MWOODY trc to replace the generic?

Glenn

"GREAT guitar, I'm sure you will grow to love it"

Loved it from the second I opened the case, it is a GREAT guitar..., by far the nicest electric I have ever owned. I am now trying to find a nice old tube-type combo amp to do it justice..

Mwoody,

can you send me jpg's of grains and color of the various veneers you're working in?

interested in making a pg/trc in ebony for the viper?

StephenT has(soon to be mine if mother nature coops) a PD12 in black as well... so..

zebra sounds interesting... was considering doing an oem copy in white 5-ply.

at least One if not both of them will get the treatment.(in fully reversible mode).

I'll be glad to send you a template of the pg/trc as it is going in for a set-up and full workover at Howie's shop next week.. so while Brett has it opened up and taken apart can get a tracing/negative.

gonna go with 9's on the new setup.. does anyone have spec's on pickup height's and original set-up specs for action and intonation for a preacher deluxe?

any special way to clean the pots/switches on the preamp board?

I have great faith in Brett's abilities.. I just know that he doesn't get a whole lot of Ovation Solids to work on.

Viper is going in for a new setup as well at the same time.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

God Bless,

Glenn

I had to go back over this post because I seem to have missed a few details.

A) I don't need a template - I have one.

B)Tall or short TRC?

C) I will be close to making some PD PG's in a couple of weeks. I will go over details with you later.

D) Black is beautiful! If you just need a black TRC I may have one.

Nice guitar.

sorry, beer lag here.... and 60 hour weeks

Abendicum has the 1118 in need of a trc but I believe he is looking for OEM signature type. it currently has a standard balladeer trc in b/w 3ply. so none missing just the one he wants, Tony had sent an oem to me but was lost in transit.

AB inquired as to if ever located.

interested in zebra pg/trc for at least one PD at this time.

and a treatment for the viper.

Thanks,

God Bless,

Glenn
