Roasted Llama? No, I think Cliff was talking about Rosalana. She used to be my house keeper, and a damn good one at that.

Not being a red-meat eater, I've never TRIED it, but've heard of it . . . Anything like Kobe beef??
Pressed Guinea Hen (clarification):
On one trip up the Mountain to Bill's house, I was involved in a stand-off with a huge flock of Guinea Hens that belong to one of his neighbors. They came running down the slope, into the middle of the road and REFUSED to move! After about a minute of crawling at a snail's pace in first gear and tapping on the horn, they dispersed . . . save one.
This guy was adamant that he was NOT gonna MOVE!!
Now, . . . Guinea Hens are NOT that tall, but this guy stretched himself (and his neck) to be as tall as he possibly could so that he could defiantly "stare me down" over the grille of my car. PT Cruisers have a cowl that makes the front quite low to the ground. When I heard him scrape underneath, I stopped and laid on the horn. He flapped around in the wheelwell for a couple seconds and then lept out on the driver's side, giving me a look of TOTAL disdain before skulking off into the woods.
Came close to becoming an appetizer . . . :D |

This is WAAAAAAAAY off topic but last year while diving a nearby quarry, I encountered a catfish nest, and mom (or pop) catfish on the side of a sandbar. Large catfish can actually get pretty aggressive and when an 8-10lb fish starts attacking your face you know it. Well I smacked it away and got on the sandbar and stood up. Well just as I stood up, another diver passed close behind me and his fin touched the back of my leg. I levitated out of the water at that point, of course laughing at the same time.
Now last weekend, back at same quarry. I notice I'm near the same sandbar (actually it's the old road that is now submerged) and think to myself "self.... I wonder if that 'ol catfish is still here". I look down.... into the MOUTH of that (or probably another) damn tick'd off catfish.
I've been eating seafood all week.
Back on topic...
I hope they set up a tent, table and chairs or something outside for lunch at the Factory. That would be cool, especially if it rains as can happen that time of year. The view of the brook, stream or whatever it is, it quite nice.
Dinner and Jam session is being planned at a nearby ski lodge. Nothing in stone yet, but that's the plan as I understand it. |

Not being a red-meat eater, I've never TRIED it, but've heard of it . . . Anything like Kobe beef?? The funniest part of the story was, I was on business in the town of Kumamoto (Kyushu island) where I had this horse sashimi with just this one other american friend and about 4 japanese guys. We're sitting around having this meal at this low table that you kind of kneel under (by the way, to understand this story you have to also know that we had been drinking massive amounts of saporro beer). Anyway, very formal polite japanese business style we're eating this meal and when I found out the dark meat was raw horse I started very quietly humming the theme song to "Mr. Ed" - "A horse is a horse of course of course..." Anyway, these japanese guys have NO idea what the hell I'm doing and maybe they just think that's how americans saw "thank you" for a nice meal. But my american friend is absolutely splitting a gut trying not to laugh. He's in complete pain as I just keep humming away "A horse is a horse of course of course ...". he finally just loses it and literally pisses his pants. I mean, actually pissing in his 3 piece suit. He could not stop to save his life. I didn't know until later when he told me that once he started peeing he tried to minimize the damage by actually pulling it out and just pissing on the floor under the table. One of the truely funniest night of my life. Dave |

The tent in the back yard is a great idea as is the ski lodge, I assume it's Ski Sundown which is right behind the factory.
The guinea hens were Sam Waterson's and they do get pressed on a regular basis. |

Yeah, you told me that that day.
That's why Jeanette and I just laughed at each other when you said it.
She's a BIG "Law & Order" fan, and TNT plays like 3 or 4 episodes every evening back-to-back. I usually get home from work late every evening, and every time I come home, it's on.
One night (right before we came up) I came home and said "Why IS it that every time I come home I gotta look at Sam F*&%$%g WATERSON!!
We just both thought it'd be somewhat ironic if I ended up killing one and had HIM sitting in a courtroom staring me down . . . |

| Hi guys and girls,
since im in norway and cant join the factory tour for obvious reasons, i would not mind if someone could ask a question and give some feedback to the list: what the deal is on Ovation solidboy guitar production? Minding my own business, i really dont know anything about it, but someone kinda told me that they had heard a rumor from someone, somewhere down the line… : it would not surprise me to much, if they made a reissue of that very odd shaped solidbody they used to produce way back… |

- YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING.
- ROOM RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE BEFORE May 26, 2005 to get the special OFC Rate.
I just checked with the hotel and only 7 room reservations have been made in the OFC block. INSURE THE HOTEL IS AWARE you are attending the Ovation Fan Club event.
See you in all in 32 days. |

Are there any members that plan on attending who perhaps play drums or keyboards and might we arrange to have something like that, or would that maybe get out of control?
Just a thought - I know most of you only want to hear the sweet sound of Ovation Guitars.
I'll be bringing the (brand X) bass, but it will never come out of the case if I get to play an Ovation that happens to be there.
(with frets)
Hopefully, I won't be the only bass player. |

Out of curiosity, where does everyone who drives there, leave their guitars while at tour? Sort of nervous about leaving any guitars in locked car during daytime heat while at tour. Peace mike |

"If you need/want two double beds in the bedroom just ask, they are the same rate."
Miles-
I called trying to book the room with 2 double beds and the rate is $20 more ($119). I spoke with the manager (Ronnie), and those rooms, apparantly, are quite large and she said they can't give them out at the same rate.
If you made the original arrangements with someone else, perhaps they aren't all on the same page over there, and need to be.
Doesn't matter much to me, there is a pull out couch in the regular rooms, so we're sticking with that...but I thought I should let other OFC members know if they were planning to share rooms.

This year I am stuck with an '88 Tercel that my grandson worked on in a shop class at Mayfield High and his mother (my daughter) bought for him at age 15, which he snuck out and tore down a neighbors fence because he didn't know how to drive a stick shift. I ended up with it because my Iraq veteran paratrooper grandson bought it to relieve his aunt's problems and parked it in my yard.
It has a hot 1200 cc 12 valve engine and is basic CAR, standard shift, cheap radio etc, The school rebuilt the engine and trannie, brakes etc, but run out of money for the air conditioner which I am fixing. It is basic SMALL car enough room for me and not much more. I am on my way!!

Got to hit the junkyards, I have a '92 switch I can rewire and make work if I can't find one. My wife just had a very serious cataract removed from her right eye which was totally blind, each day she sees a little more, I'll leave for the factory tour when she starts reading those emails that some of those bluegrass groupies have sent. They have messages like "Your 1 mm mandolin pick shakes my 80 year old booty when you do Cripple Creek".
Come to think of it I may risk travelling without air conditioning if I get any more of those!!!

THIS is "NextYear"!!
There was a whole year to plan and save . . . TWO years in some instances.
Ovation/Hamer has been quite generous to us, and in a lot of ways, our presence is a bit of an inconvenience for them as it DOES disrupt their daily routine/production . . . let alone the expense involved. . .
Did anybody ever consider that if there isn't a continued interest and/or participation, Ovation could very understandably say ". . Why Bother?? . .".

Also, it might be nice to finish-off the jam with a tune that everybody (who wants to) can join in to sing and/or play, (not to try to add structure to this musicaly free-for-all.) In 2003, it just kinda happened with "The Weight" by The Band. I guess everybody knows THAT one.

Anyone have a simple, catchy tune, we so we could ALL learn in a few weeks so we could ALL play ONE song together as mentioned above... (We could email to anyone interested), I haven't a clue what THE WEIGHT IS...
I vote for "Scarborough Fair" ,arranged by Russ Shipton. It has 4 chords Am,Em,D and G...
I could scan it and send it to anyone interested...
The history of Scarborough and its fair:
This English folk song dates back to late medieval times, when the seaside resort of Scarborough was an important venue for tradesmen from all over England. Founded well over a thousand years ago as Skarthaborg by the norman Skartha, the Viking settlement in North Yorkshire in the north-west of England became a very important port as the dark ages drew to a close.
Scarborough Fair was not a fair as we know it today (although it attracted jesters and jugglers) but a huge forty-five day trading event, starting August fifteen, which was exceptionally long for a "fair" in those days.
People from all over England, and even some from the continent, came to Scarborough to do their business. As eventually the harbour started to decline, so did the fair, and Scarborough is a quiet, small town now.
Sort of resembles our gathering in Conn. in a small way... Let's hope it DOESN"T DECLINE !!!

Great song, but how about something more up-beat?
That is an interesting story about the meanings of that song. I was in my early teens when that song came out and to be honest, I thought the words were "Scarborough Aff air". I guess at that age, everything is about sex. Come to think about it, I was first exposed to this song when my older cousin and I told our parents that we were going to the movies to see "The Jungle Book" but really went to see "The Graduate".

It features Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson,Joe Walsh, Billy Preston. Clarence Clemons,Nils Lofgren, Doc John - the night tripper, and, unfortunately, Ringo. I was fortunate enough to see this line-up back in '89
It's a gem.
I think we might entertain a few more ideas, though. I know Cliff has quite a catalog of tunes he's performed over the years. Where is that slothead? |

I never liked playing "arrangements" so I've worn out a few rewind buttons trying to figure out each note. I impressed myself recently when I took it back up after a 20 year layoff and could still remember how to play it. If you only know a couple of songs, I guess you should remember them. |

It's about a chronic liar who talks his way into a truck driving job driving an eighteen wheeler to Birmingham and can only find reverse.
It has lines like
There must be some way to turn this rig around
I make it fine through the country, but the cities get me down
I know everyone knows it and I'd look forward to relearning it as my record album that has it on it is jammed in a record cabinet that I can't get open, and I don't have a turntable anyhow.
It is the kind of song you can go home with it running through your mind, and be happy that you aren't backing your way home with an eighteen wheeler stuck in reverse.

Need Ride after Tour to Norwalk, Conn
After the big OFC shindig at the factory Friday
after dinner friday night
after the Jam session
I'm trying to catch a ride to or near Norwalk, Conn:
I am trying to make plans with my brother who lives in Norwalk, Conn. and save him the round trip late Friday night or early Saturday morning to pick me up...
Anybody staying late after dinner and going to the jam session. I would like to bum a ride and get near Norwalk, Conn.
I think it's an 1-> 1-1/2 hour drive from the hotel to my brothers house...

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MADE YOUR ROOM RESERVATION!!!! Info in the ANNOUNCEMENTS forum.
Only 11 room reservations have been made where people signified they are with the Ovation Fan Club, but in the list of people who signed up for the tour, at least 14 of the 35 families registered are significantly from out of the area, and about 1/2 of the rest are also not in driving distance.

Anyone have any info on the guitar I'm playing here?:
I know it was one of Master Keller's.
Amy was playing it before I got pulled up there
(I'm sorry Amy, . . I think this is like the SECOND time I've "squeezed" you off the stage . . . we need to fix that next year!).
Anyway, I was in the process of installing the really nifty clip-on condensor mic that Master Templeman brought for my SlotHead (which sounded GREAT, btw!), but it was quicker/easier to jump on this (what appears to be) Elite s/b with a custom top.
Nice lil' Guitar!! Very comfy!
I could go for something like this for gigs!
Any info? |

I seem to remember Amy referring to it as "hers". |

1868 top and bowl with a flame maple laminated top, bass side epaulets only and a stock 1868T maple neck. I cobbled it together as a test mule for the OP-PRO so I could do some field testing without tearing apart my old stage guitar, which was an 1868-BTA (blue tamo ash).

AL is a KILLER guitar player!!!
Of course, I've seen him throw out several very tasty licks (especially on electric) at these Jams. But last Friday nite, back at hotel we were sitting around trading songs, and I'd just finished a rather lame version of some Who song for Master Slipkid (was it WhoAreYou?), when at the end, Al just LAUNCHES into this BRILLIANT acoustic passage from the "Overture" from "Tommy".
He just blew me AWAY!! He absolutely NAILED it!!!
A Tip'O the Beret to Master Pepiak! Well Done!!

Much like Tiggers, . . . IT'S the only one.

Kissing up to Al will not result in better serial numbers on anything ordered. Tony told me this.
It is best to treat Al with some disdain so that he will continue to sell items to us below market price. A humble Salesman is an affordable Salesman!
Moody, on the other hand, needs to be treated with full respect. He knows too much about all of us! |

LOS ANGELES — Paul Winchell, a ventriloquist, inventor and children's TV show host best known for creating the lispy voice of Winnie the Pooh's animated friend Tigger, has died. He was 82. |

He was a very talented and (from what I understand) somewhat troubled individual. May He Rest in Peace. |

Location: Tennessee | I grew up watching Winchell/Mahoney ... that show was great. Long live Knucklehead Smith! Paul Winchell was also the voice of the "scrubbing bubbles" in the commercials.
More interesting, Winchell was a cardiologist and invented the first artificial heart.

| Almost had Al set me up with an Adamas that matched my Adamas 1 #7 color w/cutaway and five strings earlier this year, but I opted for a custom order Hamer 8 string bass. (should be getting this within a week or so) I have this fantastic Elite 5 string bass now, w/quited maple top that was built as a one-of. To be honest it sounds so good I have lost the desire to own an Adamas Bass. But after seeing the one in that photo it has me a-thinkin again!
