Location: NC | Why are there and what are the differences between a acoustic guitar amp and one that says electric guitar amp?
I hooked the Viper I just purchased into my acoustic guitar amp and it worked. Is there something I am missing?
Sorry for a dumb question if it is one but no one can explain this and at a particular online store I frequent they make the distinction as well. :confused: |

Location: Midland, MI | Acoustic guitar amps are generally voiced to complement an acoustic guitar. Electric guitar amps are voiced compeltely differently and AE's plugged into them generally (but not always) sound thin, brittle and hars. Or so I'm told. ;)
I think this has been covered before, but maybe I'm thinking of a different board. |

Location: NC | So would you recommend getting a purely electric amp as well for the Viper?
I assume that would be what logic would follow and I have my eye on a Line 6 which is economical and sounds pretty good. It is a 30 Watt and can be had for under 2 C-notes!
Any suggestions for this price range.....? |

I have tried the Line 6 in this price range, and quite frankly, the Vox blows it away (the 30 watt sounds better than the 15). Also, most magazine reviews have said the VOX is one of the best modeling amp in its price range.....$169-229. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I just bought a Behringer Blue Devil 112 with 60 or 65 watts, 99 presets and more stuff than I know what to do with for $89. It sounds good to me and the volume is no problem. More than I need. I sound just like Carlos Santana now. Truthfully, I'm still trying to figure out all the different sounds.
Crate and Fender also make 212 amps (2 12 inch speakers) with 100 watts for around $300. All come with footswitches.
An acoustic amp won't have a "dirty" or distortion channel and generally will have some kind of feedback damper that a regular combo amp won't have.
There are just tons of features on the amps coming out. Go play around with a few of them in a store. |

I found it for $229. The LIne 6 Spider II is the one I heard a sound byte of and it sounded great, it was a 30 watt as well. But you say you played the Line 6 and you prefer VOX.........duly noted. |

Location: Anchorage, Alaska | I've got both a Vox Pathfinder and the Fender G-DEC. They are two totally different animals. The Vox will blow the G-DEC away for tone and volume, but the G-DEC is the "band in a box" and is just a kick in the pants to play through. The G-Dec is more of a practice amp, where you could do small gigs with the VOX. With the "band in a box" features, the D-DEC had to give a little from the guitar speaker side for the other features to sound presentable. There is a great thread on the G-DEC on the Fender forum. |

At my lesson on Tuesday, my instructor actually had one, and we used one of the patterns as a backing track, which was a hoot. But, I thought the sound was...iffy. Then again, I didn't actually play through it, so... |
