I don't know about the story, could be true but I don't know who the person is.
Now If you're as guitar palyer and have had this instrument all over the world with you, you know how players feel. Wouldn't you have replaced the string before offering it for sale? This just seems a ltiile funny to me.
The two bolts on the bridge was something that was done at that time.
