Until about a year ago I had little use for either. Now I am finding that songs that where just out of vocal reach before (Ticket to Ride & Let It Be) are do-able by just tuning down one step.
And I'm equally suprised at how by just bringing the capo up a fret or two I can bring the vocals up out of the mud.
I play "Mrs. Brown" capoed up 4 frets. For one chord I have to bar at the 10th fret. Don't attempt this with any guitar with a box back! Only Ovations can ring true that far up the neck.

Adjusting the medication levels of your male hormone replacement therapy might achieve similar results.

(However, I'm not a medical professional)

Jeez...If it makes the song better, why not?
Fortunatly, I don't use the "capo scale" to measure my manhood. A 12" ruler is much more useful....barely. ;)

...don't need a Mic stand, huh?

If you had been Glen Cambell, Ovations wouldn't have even gotten a start.

Really?
Is the use of a capo a knock on the guitar?

No, it was the visual of Glen Campbell not needing a mic stand.

Regarding capos, I have one on almost every guitar. I love capos and use them whenever needed. I ain't a purist in that regard.

Ya know, at his age I'm glad he can keep something up....

...cause I was gonna suggest an alternative placement for his capo :eek:

Violá back on topic :D

Would rather see someone use a capo, than watch those kids come in my local guitar emporium to practice their brand of drop D tuning for 2-3 hours every Saturday. :D

I have heard that a pair of Vise-Grips on certain parts of the anatomy will raise the voice an octave. Frankie Valli reportedly had several pairs. :D

I've tuned down 1-2 steps for years. It not only keeps many songs within my limited vocal range, it is A LOT LESS strain on the guitar.

You would have thought Glen could afford a strap.

I still like him, but I don't want him to sign any of my guitar tops. :D

I played with a guy that tuned down a half step and it drove me crazy. I always thought I was out of tune.

I believe that he's holding out for the OFC strap.

His arms are going to get pretty tired if he's holding out for the strap.

Only in the OFC can a post go from;

Capos to Anatomy to guitar straps.

Ya gotta love it.

We seem to be a very diverse group of people, at least we are imaginative. Just goes to show we are always thinking. :D :D

Back ON TOPIC (...sorry...);

I've found (with one of my Larrivees) that tuning down to D and putting on a set of D'Addario J18's (.14 - .59) even improves the tone capoed at the 2nd fret to bring it back up to standard 'E' - those heavy cables really add some tone (or is it 'mojo'?) - so I'm gonna try it on my L777, too.

And with the built in tuner, doing some drop D (drop 'C' actually) is really easy, and will sound incredible! :cool:

I've always been a "ConcertPitch" kinda guy and never subscribed to "TuningDown" ('cept for DoubleDrop D). My philosophy's always been "if y'cant hit the note . . don't sing the song" (been pretty successful thusfar . . but some of those Joni Mitchell songs are a real "pain in the nut" :-)

I'm a blantant purp at using the capo tho, but not for "singing" purposes . . . really just to get the needed phrasing or to facilitate chord shapes while singing . . . I'm actually a pretty shitty "guitarist" . . . .
