I have the Little Red Riding Viper on ebay and it is getting down to the last 5-6 hours. About 500 views, 24 Watchers, 9 bids and the reserve is nearly met.

Am I the only one that finds themselves getting fairly anxious near the close of an Auction?

What do you guys (and goyls) do in this situation?

The last few auctions I have been involved in have gone dead quiet until the last 5 minutes of the auction, then BAM! I am just waiting for the BAM part. :(

If I'm buying, well, I always just bid the max I'm willing to pay, then don't look at the auction until after it's over. I avoid falling in to that trap of 'must have it at any cost' that seems to afflict so many.

If I'm selling...I just keep hitting refresh. :)

To all:

I know it is wrong to use this board for personnal gain and to spam others but I can't contain this any longer.
I am looking for fanancial backers on a new Hair Growth lotion made from Rogain, Viagra and Prozac.

If your hair grows back, it'll stand straight up.

And if it won't, like, you'll be totally OK with that.

This is what I meant by Al's shameless plug from a previous thread/post
"the sound is very good. if you like the elite t you will like the rf.
the paint on the back may make it a tad more slippery but nothing an O fan cannot handle.
I have one in stock. (shameless plug)"

Mike, I eschew the above suggestions, and would soberly throw my absolute highest bid with 20 seconds to go....sniping yourself is a successful strategy...it often works for me.

If you're at your top already.....you might want to think HIGHER.....

Yeah, I never put in my highest till the very end. That's if I really want it. By then you have a pretty good idea of what your highest needs to be (and then you do or you don't bid it). If I don't really care about it I put it in and look away till it's over. That approach rarely works for me.

Now I'm pissed at you guys. With 3 minutes to go, I'm watching this auction like I've got something at stake.

I try to stay relaxed, but last October when I really wanted the GC DB, I was a nervous wreck.

By the way, I think this Viper is a beautiful guitar. It's nice to see that Woodrow got the Ovation decal on the pickguard the way it's supposed to go. Somebody must have straightened that boy out.

Geez...I need to pay attention more....I thought Mike was BIDDING on it, not SELLING it.

I sold a guitar on eBay a month ago---it met reserve within 12 hours of listing.....but it also went BAM at the end, too. Hope Mike's did....

The logo was right and the knobs were in the right place too!

It nearly went across town to Mr. Golf but will now go to Zip 77584, wherever that is!

Nothing like a little group effort, eh?

I'm going out for a beer now!

Thanks again Mr. Golf!

You turned it into an auction!

Actually Kurt and I talked shortly before (didn't know he would take another run at it). He has some great ideas for a Preacher Semi-Deluxe.
Maybe even a Music venture to couple with an OFC NW Getogether!

Congrats on the auction, Mike. Have you thought of brancing out? I'm toying with the idea of finding a new body for my Steinberger (it's the P-series with the rock maple mini-v body). ;)

I normally bid what I would pay for something. If I feel it's too much I just don't bid.

Been doing the eBay thing for around 7 years now, and if you're willing to wait, it will be back on there sooner or later. Maybe not the original item, but one similar, or just like it.

You just have to be patient. :D

I know this is easier said than done ... but I try to approach bidding on an auction as if it were shopping in a real store. I have a price in mind and I stick to it no matter what. Usually. Of course unless it's "close" to what I had prepared to pay and I figure, well I drove all the way to the store anyway ... Dave

Doesn't it pi$$ you off though, when the winning bid is $1 more than your highest bid???

It used to, but I find if there is another one out there, it will be on the 'Bay sooner or later, and I'll try again, if I haven't found something else. :D

It always "looks" like the winning bid is $1. higher than your max bid. But you should assume that if you tried to re-bid, the winner would have just engaged in a bidding war with you and you may have eventually won it, but at what cost. What is the item worth to you vs. what is it worth to make sure someone else does not get it instead. Dave

Dave is right....the top bid that the winning bidder had submitted was probably a bit more than the $1 over your top. You COULD have gone up a bit, but the result might have been the same....other than costing the other person some more money, and making the seller happier.
